Owner: Robert Stacho

This car has been totally restored but not to original by previous owner(s) and was purchased by me in October 1998. Since I was a teenager, which was many moons ago, I have been fascinated by the first generation Z/28's and their 302 motor.

The car has a 302 but is not original. Engine had been decked and numbers lost, but believe it to be 69 motor because it has 4 bolt mains. The motor is still a 302 as no extensive work was needed when redone in 1992. According to the engine builder, it still has the original TRW pistons and a stock 30/30 cam. The engine dyno'd on the stand at 383hp with a special racing carburetor on the engine. This has since been changed out in favor of a 780 Holley dual feed with electric choke. The previous owner did not like the fact that it ran poorly with the other carburetor until the car warmed up because it had no choke. I have the original dyno sheets that indicate it is a 302 motor and also talked extensively with the shop that did the motor before I bought the car.

Other equipment on the car includes; the M-22 Rockcrusher, 4:11 positraction rear end, tilt, gauge package, power disc brakes. The car actually has 4 wheel discs with the factory fronts and converted rears. Also, and I believe this to be rare, it has power windows. I know this was an option for 1968 Z/28’s but my guess would be that not many have them. The car was painted in 92/93 time frame Euro Red and also has black standard interior. The interior, according to the codes, should be Black Houndstooth and the original color was Corvette Bronze.

As you can see, the car was restored but not to original. It was done to the liking of the man with the $$ but, in my opinion, still kept the “Z” tradition with that 302 mouse motor. I tried early on to document this car as a true Z when it left the factory but had difficulty because of the poor documentation on 68's. If it is a clone, it appears to be correctly done. It does seem to have all the correct standard Z equipment. I just love it and it compliments my 2 big block Chevelles really well. With headers, Flowmasters, that bright red paint and 69 cowl hood, it makes a statement every time I pull into the local cruise hangouts.
