I'm helping my bud restore his 68 Firebird.
He just got it back from paint and put on his new wheels, but noticed the front tires rub on the lower back corner when he turns.
The fronts are 17x7 American racing torque thrust 2 with 4" bs. and the tires are 225/50
Is it possible the subframe was installed too far back? were close and a half inch would fix it
His paint and body guy attached the subframe to the car.
Stock control arms.
I can probably still get under there and slide a dowel in the alignment holes to check, right?
so the holes are probably 5/8", I'm gonna scare some up.
hey that stuck dowel is doing a great job holding that side of the sub frame in alignment for 31 years
I have the exact tire and rim on my 68 Camaro and no rub issues, but with my 2" drop coils I get a rub when I run through a big dip in the road where he gets the rub just from turning and its just on the right tire
Actually it is holding it slightly out of alignment or it would fall out. My sophisticated measuring system 31 years ago did not really work as planned. Never knew it with all stock parts but with aftermarket A arms and a good alignment it showed. only rubbed occasionally on a big bump but only on the fender well to fender upper bolt. Still drives well.
