Dougs Headers or Thorley's

I currently run Dynomax ceramic headers. The driver side hangs too low since my car sits quite low. I am looking at Dougs headers or Thorley's.

Anyone have experience with these as far as how they fit, how far they hang down, and which is better maybe?

Thanks.

Doug Thorley , 376 y1C for manual trans cars. They tuck up very well for low clearance car. Have an exceptional sealing ability at the collector. 14 ga tubing and 3/8's flanges. Coated. Not cheap.

Re: Dougs Headers or Thorley's

How about any info on the Doug's headers? Doug's run about 70 bucks cheaper I than Doug Thorley headers. Hell for about another $125 you can get 304 stainless from Stainless Works.

Re: Dougs Headers or Thorley's

I'm running the ceramic Thorley 376Y's on my lowered 68 with a manual trans, excellent fit.

I ended up getting them here, cheaper than Summit Racing with 10% off and really free shipping.

Re: Dougs Headers or Thorley's

If you want/need 1 3/4 primary tubes, the Thorleys are out, as they don't make a SBC header in that size. Doug's D368 has 1 3/4 tubes.

What you DON'T want are Hooker SuperComp #2131. Yikes!

I recently asked a couple of members via PM about the Doug's and ground clearance - both replies were very positive.

Re: Dougs Headers or Thorley's

I ended up with the Thorley 376Y1 as well ('69 coupe, ST10 manual) and bought them through AutoAnything as well after reading one of Mike's previous posts. You may need to do a search for "autoanything" and "coupon" online to find a list of coupon codes for 10% off.

As far as Dougs vs. Thorley, I believe the only 1st gen tri-y headers that are under the Dougs brand have a "375" part number, which (I'm guessing) is analogous to the "375" Thorley part. Some people have had issues with these with PS box interference, etc. All my reading here indicates that the 376Y1 or their ceramic coated equivalent are the "best fit" parts.

FWIW, here's the thread with Mike's previous post(s) and some nice header pics. (excellent car btw mike! I want your dash!)
New headers fit great!

I will vouch for the Hooker 2131, They are good headers but they hang too low. What I got rid of.

Re: Dougs Headers or Thorley's

I have Thorely 376Y1C on a 68 SBC w/ a THM700R4 Automatic. I noticed folks saying they work with a manual box. They also work with autos. Steering box clearance is great. Excellent fit under the floor pans. What I don't know is if they work with factory AC.

I have Vintage air on my car with these headers, Your compressor is on left? I dont see what would get in the way that you can't refab to get them to work. I dont think the AC case would even get in way any more than a set of Hookers.

Re: Dougs Headers or Thorley's

A/c compressor is on the right but a March Ultra front drive system is going in also (coming home present from the wife I just found out) so no worries on accessories clearance. My biggest issues will then be steering box, which everyone says is good, and clearing manual clutch linkage. I am putting a TKO in when I get home also.

Re: Dougs Headers or Thorley's

You might want to verify the header port matches your cylinder heads. The tri-y's are 1 5/8" oval. In my case with Pro-Action 180's they were too small.

Thorley sent me a tracing of the header port. I can fax it to you if desired.

I did not have any clearance issues on steering box with Thorleys. I added ps.

Re: Dougs Headers or Thorley's

Well, I will be buying new AFR eliminator's so they should be fine. Sounds like the Thorleys will be it.

Thanks for all the input.

Re: Dougs Headers or Thorley's

I dont know what the exhaust port looks like on the cnc eliminators heads, but my thorleys fit perfect on my afr 195 heads. Using ultraseal black gaskets from Mr gasket # 5907. The have been there for last 3 years. Dead soft alum or copper, went to trash.
