Any ideas what kind of ET'S I can expect?

I was wondering if anyone could maybe have some sort of experience or educated guess at what Et's my '68 may run in the 1/4 mile. I have a 468 big block with 12.5 -1 pistons, 575 lift hyd cam, open chambered 118cc heads that have been ported and the valves opened up to 2.19, edelbrock intake with a Holley mech secondary double pump 750. This is fired by a Msd 6-al Box and Msd dist, The transmission is a custom built powerglide with 1.82 low gear and a 3800 Coan converter with a manual valve body. The rear end is a 12 bolt with 4-11 gears. The car has a 6 point cage and fiberglass front fenders and fiberglass inner fenders, also full interior. I am hoping for low 11's to high 10's on slicks and open Hooker super comp headers. Any input would be appreciated, Thanks!!!!

Mid to top 10's if the glide doesn't hurt you.

With the powerglide and other items you've noted it sounds like your car is purpose built with the track in mind. What size tires and rear suspension is under the car?

Did you build it or purchase it as is?
Will it actually see the track?

It will depend on the weight and how well it is tuned, but low 11's high tens are possible.

The car has stock suspension other than traction bars. I will be running a 28 or 29 inch tall slick 9 or 10 inches wide. I bought the car minus the motor and tranny, it already had the frame tied and the cage. I want a car I can cruise the streets on friday night and bolt on the slicks and go racing Saturday night. I plan on weighing the car as soon as it comes back from the paint shop.

I hope to switch to aluminum heads in the future, that should lighten my weight some and help the performance some.

Can you tell me more? This is the first big block I have ever owned. The builder built this motor with all new stuff and this is the cam he chose. He said the motor should make a little over 600 Hp, is his figures a little far fetched? I am interested in trying to make this a wicked street machine and still put on a show at the strip.

need to know the heads or number on heads and cam duration and lob sep-but from specs stated at 12.5 comp your best et numbers not gonna be close with 575 hyd cam-630 with about 285 adv duration 1110 sep solid would be closer- i used to run bracket with my elky with 468 11.7 comp closed chamber factory heads and a cam close to the 630 made 570hp(reliable and streetable)---the 468 in it now 810hp on motor and 1080 on bottle 12.7 comp

The heads are 781 heads, they have been ported and polished and the valve chamber has been opened up, the valves are 2.19- 1.88. The cam is a comp cam 305 H. I believe it has a 305 duration with .575 lift. I have double springs with 1.7 roller rockers.My heads are open chambered heads, that brings the 12.5 pistons down to about 10.5-1 compression, that is what I was told. This way I can run 93 pump gas even though I will mix it when I go to the track. So approx what kind of horsepower should this combo make? Thanks for all the help.

not enough info for my desk top dyno but consider this-the LS6 in chevelle was 11.25-1 solid lifter cam rect port heads made 450hp--(just my opinion and 30yr exsper.) still alot of factors on hp -zero decking makes more power ect-this cam with compression is probably not the one i would use-less duration and little more lift-with your combination, your 60ft is gonna be lacking and pull good on big end--460-470hp maybe---no way high 500hp he is feeding you alot of bull if he is stating these high numbers-chek out calculators for almost anything in performance forum

It all comes to to getting the power to the ground and your 60' time. needs to be at least a 1.6 or so to get 11s and a probably a 1.4 to get into the 10s

With 3200# (guesstimate) and 500 hp a (little low for a glide)

My guess would be a mid 11 at best.

IMHO the weakest link is the suspension and the traction bars. I would at minimum go to CalTrac or a 4 link. The set up now puts you at risk of wheel hop and a quickly busted rear end.

i might have told you wrong on the duration, will look into that. I also will get a set of caltracs ordered as soon as it comes back from the paint shop. They say these heads are semi closed, I dont know anything about that. I'm not to concerned about the Hp numbers but I do want to make it run as good as possible. I hope to get to run it once before the tracks close for winter.

Cal-Tracs are good stuff, no doubt about it. But the slapper bars will do you just fine. Save your cash, and put some good shocks and springs on the front instead. Let the front end travel and get some of the weight of the BBC going to the rear.

Take a look around on the web for Anthony Bertozzi's black 69 427 AA/SA stock eliminator car....makes 625 Plus HP and will just about flip over backwards on 9 inch radial slicks with slapper bars.
