Re: problem w/ dart iron eagle platinum heads

I will bet someone else will chime in here but I have heard guys talk about using a Lois tool to open this area up. Be careful with shavings. Also check for correct push rod length when completed.

Pop the head off the motor and grind the head, .020" is plenty.

Same Problem With ALL Brands

Title says it all! This is as common a problem as you're going to find. If you follow some simple rules it can be avoided.

1. Pre-assemble
2. Pre-assemble
3. Pre-assemble.
4. etc.

You get the message? The time to deal with this AND many other issues is BEFORE you do the final assembly. Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. Take this photo below and use it a guide, both now and for other's in the future, the rockers and a set of adjustable guide plates will almost always totally eliminate any pushrod/runner issues with respect to the SB's!

Re: problem w/ dart iron eagle platinum heads

What ratio rocker did you select, or more importantly did they send you? If it is larger than the 1.5 standard SBC this is a common problem in factory heads. I'd assume Dart would have already opened up the pushrod holes for larger ratios, but it's possible they didn't. Problem is solved by opening up the pushrod hole. I know they make a tool to slot them longer, but I've always solved it with a standard 7/16 drill. This works fine on factory heads. I don't know how large you can open them up on a set of Darts.

We've used 4 sets and every one needed grinding. If that is not an option you could probably use an adjustible guide plate.

Re: problem w/ dart iron eagle platinum heads

I bought a early set of iron eagle bbc heads and had the same problem I took them off and they gave me a brand new set that worked perfect! My pushrods would not even line up with the rockers! The new set worked perfect. Almost looked like core shift!

Re: problem w/ dart iron eagle platinum heads

i talked to them yesterday and got the goahead to clearance them, the pushrods hit the side of the head, not fore and aft, pushrod length has nothing to do w/ this prob, w/ the 215 head they made the ports larger and actually altered the valvetrain angles, the rockers will be in a v-shape when done(each cylinder), hoping to get 700+ hp out of this motor!!!

Re: problem w/ dart iron eagle platinum heads

We have always used the Crower Shaft rockers with offset and no problems and no grinding.
