Decode Ring Gear Numbers

I pulled the rear end cover today to replace the gear oil and add fresh posi additive and the stamping numbers on my 69 ring gear are as follows RICHMOND 80-0550-1 L 9 8620 Can anyone make any sense from this and determine the gear ratio ? It seems to be a little over 3 to 3 1/2 turns of the drive shaft , to one full turn of the ring gear.

Re: Decode Ring Gear Numbers

That's the ring gear part number for a RICHMOND 10 bolt (8.2") 3.55 gear set. The complete set P/N is 49-0015-1.

Re: Decode Ring Gear Numbers

For future reference, since you've got the cover off, divide the nember of teeth on the ring gear by the number of teeth on the pinion gear, and Viola... you've got your ratio.

Experience...... It's what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.

Re: Decode Ring Gear Numbers

I had to look up a Richmond gear number last weekend and found a handy online look up tool at their website.

http://www.richmondgear.com/cfide/sc...partsearch.cfm

Follow the link and input the part number: 80-0550-1

It states that you have a 8.2 inch 10 bolt 3:55 gear. Pretty nice look up tool for Richmond part numbers.
