Lost vin tag

Hi
I have a 1967 Camaro, I've had it for years, and it's in a million bits.
But I can't find the vin tag!!
Is the number stamped anywhere else on the car?
Thank you

There should be a hidden vin on the firewall below the heater opening.

Re: Lost vin tag

There will be two partial VINs on the body. But you will need to know more about the car to fill in the first part. Was this a V8 car and coupe or convertible?

I don't know what the rules/laws are like in England, but it would be best to find the tag.

68 Camaro SS 396 - 468 BBC now, Air Gap Intake, 781 heads, M21, 12 bolt. / 67 Chevelle SS 396.
Looking for 68 Camaro with body number NOR 181016

Re: Lost vin tag

So the tag has been removed from the door jamb?
If you have any official documentation (the V5 from DVLA in Swansea, a bill of sale, previous title, import approval, etc) that confirms the car's full VIN number, then you may be able to get the Police to issue a replacement VIN tag.

1969 04A Van Nuys-built Z/28. Cortez Silver with dark blue interior and VE3. Raced in E/MP at Lions in LA. Now restoring!

Re: Lost vin tag

Thanks for all the advise but, I've looked all over the bulk head, which is completely stripped. All I can see is H 34 and below that RH 33.
There is a number stamped into the front chassis frame, but I can't get to that at the moment. But That wouldn't be it?? I think it should be on the body. I believe the car was a Belguim import, and a Straight 6 and yes the the plate of the door jam and the plate on the bulk head are missing.

Re: Lost vin tag

Just below where the heater blower motor passes through the firewall, below that hole. And the stamping will probably be upside down.

Uh-oh.
That number on the frame could be it. A Belgium car won't have a tag in the door jam. The tag is only on the firewall. And possibly won't have partial VINs stamped in the body.

Does it still have the original engine? What's on the pad by the distributor?

It did have a tag on the Drivers side A pillar, just above the interior light switch, But I never had the engine from it, on the log book it states the engine and chassis number are the same.
Which would be very odd.
I'm also not sure why I'm sure it's from Belguim,i think the guy I bought it off said it was!! maybe.
It is a manual, and it came with a 4 speed (it might not be the original)
Hide away head lights, but no lower lights on the front and not RS lights at he back.
Thanks again for your help.

Re: Lost vin tag

Mark,
Do you have the title/registration for the car? Any #'s in the logbook?
If it's a US car, then the VIN's should be stamped on the cowl and by the heater as mentioned above. http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#PartialVIN

I have a the log book, this is our registration documents.
But thats no help, the numbers on it are the same for the chassis and engine, it also states it was first registered in 1973, but the reg number is a 1970!! It's a bit of a mess really, I bought the car about twenty years ago in bits, it only needed an engine!!! yea that worked out.
I'm starting to think the only way forward is the find another 1967 camaro, one thats totaly rotted out, and use my shell.
This might take another twenty years.

Send me a scan of the log book and I'll take a look - it should tell me something...
