JL8 question

Does anyone know what the story is with the X's on the JL8 calipers my car is an original JL8 car and the front calipers are casting numbers X5469889X & 5469888X. I noticed some calipers have 1 X some have 2 and some have none. Any ideas?

Re: JL8 question

My car has the X's also. I don't know for sure but I think the calipers without the X's may be from the Corvette. Hopefully Charlie will chime in.

Nope. 1967-72 Corvette caliper castings were 5452270, 5452273, 5452281, and 5452284.

Re: JL8 question

Then its a mystery to me also. There is no mention of it in Guinns book "Camaro untold secrets"

Re: JL8 question

Didn't GM use X in early production stages for prototypes of different parts.
X would then mean Experimental.

Re: JL8 question

The prototype parts and pieces were assigned O-dash numbers.
