If your alternator is on the passenger side, then the PS pump should mount off the water pump boss.
Low perf engines used narrow belts, high perf like Z/28 and big blocks used wider belts with wider pulleys.
Later pumps have pressed on pulleys with no keyway and no nut, the shaft is larger than the older pumps with nut and keyway.
The PS pump should drive off the crank alone, the belt doesn't run over the fan pulley, only the alternator pulley does. But if it has air conditioning, some of those do loop over a second groove of the PS pump.
If you use a later pump with female outlet fitting, then use a PS pressure hose for a 1974 Nova. The Nova has the same subframe and engine mounting and used that type pump.
