How to remove upper control arm shafts?

How do I remove the upper control arm shafts for a 69 Camaro? I have removed the control arms from the subframe and they are on my work bench right now.

I want to replace the upper control arm bushings but it looks like I need to remove those shafts before I can press out the bushings.

Re: How to remove upper control arm shafts?

Drill out the rubber part until there is none left.
Pull off the inner sleeve from the shaft.
Deform outer shell from arm.
Pull out shaft.
Remove the other bushing int he same matter - drill out rubber, deform outer shell.
Install new bushings - with shaft in place - grease shaft where inner bushing rides, antiseize is good, get a length of pipe to fit between A-arm on the outside of the bushing bores, press in place both bushings into arm, remove pipe.

Pipe is used to keep A-arm flanges parallel while pressing.
Might be able to use a large bench vise and sockets or pipe to press in bushings.
Don't forget the shaft.

Once you have one bushing out the shaft will come out through that hole. Then the other bushing can be pressed out in one piece if I recall correctly.

Unless you have a press, you might want to take it to a local auto machine shop where they will probably do it for $20-$30 per side.
