Problem Greasing New Ball Joint

Hi Guys,

Iím having a problem with a new ACDelco ball joint I just installed. The part number is 45D2026 and it is for my 86 IROC. I have the ball joint installed in the control arm with the joint boot and the steering knuckle installed with the castle nut torqued down.

When I try to grease the ball joint I can get a little grease in but it quickly acts like it is clogged up. When the joint is filled my grease gun handle wonít pump any more. I canít get the grease to fill the joint boot and exit the boot grease vent. I know grease is going into the bottom of the joint. Once the joint gets clogged I can press the valve on the grease fitting with a pick and grease will flow out of the fitting like it is under pressure.

Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong? Could I have done something wrong with the installation, the other side went together with no problem?

Thanks,
Chris

Re: Problem Greasing New Ball Joint

I don't think you did anything wrong. Try filling it with the weight of the vehicle off the joint, if that doesn't help change the fitting itself.

Re: Problem Greasing New Ball Joint

Change the zert fitting.

Or remove it and see if grease will pump thru the zert.

Swap zert fittings side to side. If it pumps thru it then it is the zert fitting.
