The question was if you could Order Police Brakes on first gen Camaro from Fabric as they say in the Classic Ind Catalog.
I have never heard or read about that you could so thats why I asked.

Not as far as I know. Nothing in the RPOs.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me why they would add them on race car. The front brakes do most of the stopping, and bigger brakes would just add weight.

More weight in the rear is good in Drag Racing.
But probably for better Brakes.
Short Strip?
My outher Old Drag Race Camaro was full of sand in the rear Wheelhouse.

Looks like someone has done some axel tube work. I believe the tube should choke down at the backing plate mount. Drums are not from a first gen Camaro. I could be wrong. Once I thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken. Just kidding. I put big drums on my car , they work great.

the bigger brakes will hold better when holding the rpm's up against the torque converter at the line. i know the GN guys like to do things like use 2 sets of the "long" shoes and wheel cylinders with a bigger bore to help them hold more boost on the line for a harder launch.

those ends look kinda goofy to me, and the shape of the drums look more like what was on the rear of my 78 Ford LTD II- what is the wheel bolt pattern and does it have 1/2" studs?

Looks like a Ford 9" style bearing end was welded on. That would eliminate the C-clip design as required at many race tracks.
What's it look like under the drum?

Now do you know why earlier I asked to see a picture of the end of the axle tube?

Was this car originally assembled in the USA or at one of the foreign vehicle plants?

I still don't quite understand why they did what they did. Any idea if these modifications were done while in the USA or when in was in your area? And this was a drag race car?

Those are 9" Ford "Big" hosing ends.
Most likely installed as stated to eliminate 'C Clip' axles ...

1968 Convertible
Some trucks
Other V8 things - some of which float
Other V6 things - none of which float
Oh yeah, and 1 "Straight-Six" ...

I understand the reason why they went to the c clip eliminator ends if this was a race car. No problem there.

The person that hacked up that BV rear must not have been thinking.

If they could do all of the modifications that they did to this 12 bolt, they should have just started with a 9 inch and modified it to fit under the Camaro.

welding the "Torino" ends on GM axle housings isn't anything new- you can even get the ends and retainers with the GM pattern to allow you to keep your stock brakes these days. it's a common thing to do on the 8.5's they put in 80's GN's to help them hold up to insane amounts of power, and those housings are a pretty rare part to begin with.
