Not happy with 255-60-15 15x8 rally

I just bolted on my new rear setup and it looks terrible (IMO) the wheels/tires stick out way too far. (rear is 15x8 vette with 255-60-15 BFG)
I am thinking of going to a 15x7 in the rear. what is the stock backspacing?
I have 215's i the front was thinking of 225 or 235 in the rear. Will the back spacing and 15x7 rim pull a little of the "joe dirt" look out? I'm just worried that the 235's will still have a little of the look to them that I currently have, but will the stock BS and 7" rim might fix that.

Re: Not happy with 255-60-15 15x8 rally

Matt, 235/60-15 is what I was running all around on 15x7 ralleys. They will definitely not stick out as far on the rear as the 15x8 255. But I wouldn't go any smaller than 235/60 on the rear as they would look too short in my opinion.

I went up to 15x8 on the rear with 235 to get the tires a little closer to the wheel well lip. If I can find a photo, i'll post it up.

Re: Not happy with 255-60-15 15x8 rally

Yep I had that problem with AZ coded Corvette 8" rims, they have 4" back spacing as opposed to the 4.25 back spacing of the standard 7" rim.
It becomes a bigger issue if the car is lowered the tires will rub badly.
I personally couldn't handle the look of the rear wheels sticking out like that or the tire contact with wheel arch so changed rims.

A pic of your car would be great! what BS did you use on the 15x7?

I'm running 235/60-15 on 15X7 ralleys in the rear and very pleased with the look.

Re: Not happy with 255-60-15 15x8 rally

Hi Matt,
Here is my 68 with 255-60-15s on the back and 235-60-15s on the front. The rims are 15x7. You are correct, the 15x8 Rally Rims push the rear tires too far out. I did not like the look with the Rally Rims either and changed to the Torq Thrusts. To change the look of my Camaro, I have a set of 245-60-14s mounted on the original 14x7 Rally Rims.

Re: Not happy with 255-60-15 15x8 rally

15X8 4.0 back space Rally with a 232/60/15 BFG In the other shot they are also on the front, I had rub at full right or left turn and a very lite rub strait at the wheel well on big bumps or dips in the road. Lowered in front with hotchkiss springs. To be honest I thought they would have rubbed alot more and everyplace. These were on as an experiment. The rear could have swallowed a 255 with out issue

These are 15x7 with 235/60/15 on 15x7 with 3.78 back space. Front is coil overs rear stock but empty trunk and lots of other parts missing as you can see. Hope this helps a little. It needs a 25560/15 in the rear. I would like to go bigger if possible and may order my torque thrusts from http://www.etwheels.com/et/classic5.html# I can get a 15x8 with 4.5 inch back space.

Thanks for all the responses. Some good looking cars here!
So what is the stock backspacing for a stock 15x7 rally wheel?

Tom,
Did the 8" rim make the tire look noticeably wider?

Thanks Louie, I've got P215/65R15 up front. Basically the same profile as a P225/60, but Goodrich doesn't make those with white lettering.

Re: Not happy with 255-60-15 15x8 rally

I had 235-60-15 on the front of my 68, had to be careful if the front of the car is a little low it rubs with a 3.75 BS. We had 245-60-15 on the back with what I thought was a good look. This was with a AR Torque Thrust 15x7. Patrick
