Smile wheel and tire size for a 72 camaro

I am presently building a 72, small block, 5 speed with a full comp global west cat 5 suspension. I would like to put 17" wheels on it. What backspacing and how big of a tire can I run on it. The car will run some autocross, so I don't want them to rub. Do I need to make any wheel well modifications?

On my 71 Camaro I have 17x8 Coddington Smoothies, 4 1/2" BS with Yokohama P245/45R17 tires and they fit fine. Car is lowered about 2".
Can't post pictures but could e-mail some if you like.
