How to clean and re-use dirty old gas tank?

I have what I am assuming is the original gas tank for my 68 camaro. I would like to re-use it but I have no idea where it has been. It was out of the car when I bought it. Any advise as to cleaning the inside of tank and making sure it will all work. Products? tricks of the trade? I am also wondering if it is even worth it. New ones are pretty cheap. Thanks

Local radiator places can usually hot tank and prep them. Although replacements are reasonably priced.

I to had my original tank but i felt it would be better to just get a new one or a stainless one... Less headaches and like mentioned about they are reasonably priced.

Take out the sender unit
Throw a couple L of kero in and enough coarse sand to make a sludge
Couple guys swill the mix around for 5 mins, clean /flush out
Block off the sender unit hole and pressure test to about 5lb.
