Question Planning old-school to new, help with Parts List

I'm done with carbs. I need to get with modern times and make the '69 electronic.

I'm planning an LS swap of some kind with a modern automatic. I can read a thousand threads here and the other tech sites, but I want to put together a Parts List as complete as I can make it now before I set a budget and start buying parts. This way I won't forget anything or have to go back and forth buying little bits.

I know the major parts: engine, trans, harness(es), ECM, fuel tank for EFI, etc. But what are the ancillaries I'm going to run across as it comes together under the hood? I have no idea what else is needed for a proper install.

This is all I can think of:
Cross-member\mount
Frame stands\engine mounts
Type of fuel lines for the new fuel delivery
Shifter setup for an automatic (4L60 or whatever)
Speedometer setup (?)
Accelerator
Gauges?
Miscellaneous electronics (relays, breakers, fuses)
How much of the old engine harness is kept, replaced?

I'm not doing A/C. Maybe Classic Auto Air someday.
Am I missing anything?

I think your list is pretty complete- I'm doing the same thing myself right now.

The harness can either be modified via some pinouts that you can find online, sent out to be modified, or replaced with an all-new harness.

You'll also have to think about a different radiator with electric fans.

I might be covered there... new aluminum with 2700CFM fan, thermocouple and relay controlled. It's worked great for 3 years.
I have no problem modifying the electronics as needed.

You'll also likely need a new oil pan. I believe the bat-wing Corvette pans might fit, but any of the other stock pans seem to be a no-go.

True, good call. There are already modified pans available I believe, so that should be easy.

I've used the Holley pan on a 2nd Gen and it fit well.
BUT ... GM now has a new 'Pan Kit' that is a great fit and priced very nice

And remember, besides the "fuel lines" - you'll need a tank pick-up system to allow for suction, vent and return provisions

The amount of electrical connections and functions will depend on the what/where/how you intend to use the OEM system(s) to control and monitor the engine and other components in the new installation.
Stuff like the 'speed sensor' would only be used for shifting the trans 'if' you use your original speedo vs. also driving the instrumentation of the OEM vehicle ...
The same goes for many other items, depends on your needs and application.

You can always get a full pull-out engine, trans, harness/relays/connector boxes, and ECM/DCM system and then cut/splice/paste to fit your needs.
Or ... get in touch with one of the many vendors that will supply a custom harness made to fit your needs.

Other V6 things - none of which float
Oh yeah, and 1 "Straight-Six" ...

Good list, a new engine harness, I believe this harness would come with the PCM.
It would be nice just to get a wrecked/totalled '98-'02 Z/28 and transfer parts.
And buy the oil pan to fit.

We have a great wrecked 'take-out' supplier here, so what I'm doing is trying to get a list of everything I'll need and just give him the list.

I know about a new fuel tank. I'm choking on what they cost. That's just ridiculous.

That's a bargain- it's 1/2 the price of any of the other pans I've seen, and includes the dipstick and windage tray.

Check out Tanks Inc. Their tank, with a fuel pump and sending unit is about $500, which is considerably less than the others I've seen out there. I've heard guys talk about "yeah, but without the right tank baffles you'll have starvation issues", but that always seems to be followed with "if you're autocrossing with less than 1/2 a tank of gas". I guess it depends on how you plan to use the car.

I've seen the same comments Bob.
I do plan to autocross at some point. I'm a "spirited" driver anyway so that baffling issue may come into play off the course. I'll just have to deal with it.
Gotta keep this budget down.

I've got 6 years before I have to worry about college, but by the time I'm done with this thing (and the '69 Mustang that my younger daughter wants....), they may have to just marry some rich guys and not have to worry about college....lol

I used a Tanks, Inc. setup and an Aeromotive sump, tossed most of the Tanks, Inc. setup and ended up with a tank that allowed me to almost run out of gas on a twisty mountain road.

Here's the thread: EFI Fuel Tank in '68 Camaro. The gas gauge ended up being virtually an accelerometer, but it worked well enough to warn when I needed to gas up.

That said, I'm using the VaporWorx setup in my project '68 - there's nothing quite like OEM engineering and reliability.

Mike - '68 Camaro with lots of stuff done to it.
