Question/Help about engine selection
I'll be the first to admit I know very little about engines and customizing them. I'm building a 68 street car that I'd like to be able to smoke the tires every now and again but would more enjoy a car that runs well and can just be fun to drive with some power .... not like my 4 cyl everyday work driver that when I turn on the A/C it seems like it doesn't want to climb a steep hill.
Anyway, I've been offered to buy an engine from someone that is an aquintance (19 year old that tried to restore a Camaro, then sold the car). The description that I received is:
350 SBC, no carb currently but would recommend a 750cfm, has Holley intake and Holley aluminum heads that were part of a performance package sold by Jegs, Roller Rockers, Has a Lunati hydraulic Cam (unknown specs) and forged pistons. The person who built the engine had it in a Chevelle with a turbo 350 auto transmission and took it out of the car because it did not run right with the auto tranny. He suggested it needed a tranny with at least a 3,000 stall converter to run right. The builder replaced this motor with a crate motor, then sold it to the person I know.
My question .... Knowing the next to nothing I do about engines ... would I be happy with this motor in my car as a driver ... or will I regret it because it doesn't want to idle/run properly for the street? Sorry for the small amount of specs, but that is all I was told or know.
Offered to me for $1,000
thanks for your opionions.
