Question

I'm just wondering what is the difference between a posi-traction rearend and a rearend with a locker?

A posi uses clutches to lock both axles together. The locker has drivers and couplers with teeth that lock together similar to a ratchet to lock the axles together. The locker is a more positive lock because the posi clutches can slip if the traction is unequal to the tires. Lockers are more noisy and can be iritating. The posi is easier to live with on the street.

Question

thanks alot, which one is more expensive? Because right now I only have a standard open rearend with 2:73 gearing and I'm going to be switching to some form of posi. I just want to know which is better, I'm planning on putting either 3:73's or 4:10's and I've heard that lockers are more common for off-roaders? Any help on my choice would be much appreciated.

What kind of driving do you do? If you live in town a locker will drive you crazy.

If its a weekend toy and you dont mind clunking and some fish tailing now and then go with the locker. All else use an eaton Posi.

Yes I have a Locker in my car, email me for details.

I have the Detroit Locker in my car and I like it fine. It does make some noise, but I don't mind. It is different from the locker kits made by Power Trax and Trak-Tec. The Detroit locker is designed as a complete unit and is stronger than the kits, which go in a standard differential case. The Eaton is the best of the posi units. If you can put it in yourself and get the backlash and bearing preload right, that is what I would sugest.

Hey 68Camaro,

I have the same rear end set up as u and I am going to an eaton posi with 3.73's it will give u tons of acceleration and be a good all aroun gear. I can't wait to get mine in
