I would like some opinions here from anyone that has experienced this or can offer some insight. I recently did some work under my car and had the back end jacked up pretty high for a couple of hours so I could work underneath the car. The nose of the car was pointing down at a pretty steep angle. Once I was complete, I took the car off of the jack stands and set it back down level on all fours. That was last Sunday. I was under the car yesterday, and noticed a very small amount of oil on the center support of my sub frame with a very small quarter sized oil stain on the garage floor directly below it. I could not see any oil coming from the oil pan or any of its bolts. I ran my finger between the balancer and the front lip of the oil pan and there was a light film of oil present on the bottom of the balancer in the center at the 6:00 position. There wasn't any oil on or around the front of the motor that would indicate that it was slung off while the motor was running. The motor is fresh with only about 2000 miles on it, so all of the seals and gaskets are new. My question is this:
Is it possible for oil to make it past the front crank shaft seal or the front oil pan seal below the timing chain cover and cause a few drips while the car is at an extreme incline with all of the oil pooled up in the front of the motor against the timing chain cover? I personally don't think that the front crank shaft seal is designed to be submerged in oil and hold that much of a volume of oil back as opposed to some oil just splashing against it when it gets slung off of the timing chain. The oil was not there before I worked on the car, and it was not driven after I was done working on it. Am I way off here, or could it be from somewhere else. Again, everything is new and dry under the motor. FWIW, the motor is a 461 BBC in my 69 in front of a TKO 600. I welcome any input at all. Thank you in advance.
