Can a convertible top boot be painted or dyed?

Can a white 69 boot cover be painted or dyed? Say Blue, red, green or orange. I was wondering if there was anything that wouldn't peel off.

thanks

SEM dye comes in a spray can and might do the job. Check Eastwood, they probably have it in several colors. I have used the black on my original black interior.

I don't think you will get good results. I think it will peel/crack since it is a soft material and it will look painted or dyed. It would be fine on a hard surface. I would use the boot you have for a pattern and have a new one sewn if money allows. Just a thought, A tailor at a dry cleaner or of course an upholstery person. Good luck hope this helps. Brian.

Re: Can a convertible top boot be painted or dyed?

It is a paint and not a true dye. You have to use the prep spray first to "primer" the paint I mean errr dye for better adhesion.
I have not used it, but have read many result-type comments. About a split 50-50 for and against.....from "it has survived 4 years" to "it's peeling after 3 weeks."

I have a white vert top that should be black as the TT dictates, but I doubt I will waste time trying to paint I mean dye mine black; I just don't see how it can last with repeated flex.

I saw a black one at a car show that looked good. He said he used black shoe polish on it.
