Hey all, I've been lurking on this board for a while, there seems to be some good information here.

Our Camaro is a 67 RS/SS L78 Coupe. We are owners #1 and #4 (very long story). Here are some pics during it's history:

Anybody remember Dick Shalla Chevrolet or seeing this car on the local Detroit dragstrips during the late 60's

We recently completed restoring the floors back to the original configuration, quite and undertaking!

The long road to recovery is now beginning. I am looking forward to sharing info with the other first gen guys here.

Thanks,
Joe

and have a blast, come early and stay late. Get snow tires for that thing too so we northerners can drive all year like the west and south folks do.
Glad to have you aboard.

The cliffnote version of the story

Dad bought the car new once he heard Chevy offered the L78 option. RS/SS, 4 speed, front disc brakes, rear fold down seat (for me, the 2 month old ;) ) He had the engine apart for balancing, etc withing weeks. He raced the car locally at places like Motor City Dragway and Windsor Dragway until around 1971 when he sold the car when the family started to grow.

I grew up hearing stories about the Camaro and his previous cars. Dad and I made the annual visit to the Autoramama at Cobo Hall in Detroit.
During the show in 1989, we saw a tubbed chassis 67 RS/SS Coupe painted white, yellow and orange sporting a small block, 12 point cage and a narrowed DANA rear end. Considering we see first Gen camaros around every corner, I had no idea what drew us to this one... until we asked the owner if he knew anything about the history of the car.

He started with "this car was purchased new right her in Detroit from Shalla Chevrolet by" and said my fathers name. We must have just stared at him. When my dad a told him who we were, he grabbed his wife and looked like a kid in a candy store

We kept in touch and eventually bought the rolling chassis back a few years later. Thankfully he saved the original interior (including the rear fold down), emblems, glass, everything but the SS hood. The Powertrain is long gone, but it didn't matter to us. The VIN plate matched the number under the heater fan opening and that was enough for us.

The rest is history...

Cool story, thanks for sharing... It looks like it's going back together as it came from the factory, is that correct? I have a soft spot for restored old race cars, either way it's got some  history. What kind of times did Over Anxious run in it's day?
Basically stock appearing, no more vinyl top though, that was gone when we bought it back

With the 396 and 4.88 gears it ran 12 flat at about 116MPH. He also ran 350 he built and ran 11.60s with a 5.36 gear.
