Muncie Shift Patterns

I did a search for this but I couldnt find anything. Maybe I am using the wrong terms? But Im curious to know what shift patterns were available for Muncies (and any other info you care to add)? Currently the one I has feels like its 1 down 2 up...

Re: Muncie Shift Patterns

Typical US four speed pattern with reverse to the left and up. Move the shifter to the right and 1st is up, 2nd straight down, up and past the neutral gate to 3rd and down to 4th.

Re: Muncie Shift Patterns

My 67 had a Saginaw 4-speed with levers from a 3 speed. The only way to make that fit is to flip the 3-4 lever upside down, which made the shift pattern look like this:
R 1 4
_ 2 3

Anyway, what do you mean by "1 down, 2 up"? Up/down is a motorcycle thing and would be 1 N 2 3...

Re: Muncie Shift Patterns

If your 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 are flip flopped in the "H" pattern your levers attached to the tranny may be installed incorrectly. When in neutral they should point up, not down. Been there, done that.

Re: Muncie Shift Patterns

That could have been bad if you would have speed-shifted at maximum RPM!
