Trying to determine what I need to change to install a 1970 Muncie transmission (P0A05A) with extension housing casting number 3978764 in a 1969 Camaro. The '69 needs a 3857584 extension housing for the correct shifter??? Is this a '70 transmission that had a different extension and mainshaft installed? The mainshaft has the fine splines.
I'm not a part number guy, but...
There were a few different muncie tailhousings. firstgens came with a short - pass side speedo.
Most everything else came with a short - drivers side speedo.
Some big cars came with a long tailshaft.
As long as it's a short tailshaft, it will fit.
drivers side speedo is actaully easier, just use a speedo cable for that year camaro with a powerglide or t350.
powerglide or t350 crossmember and drivershaft will fit.
yoke could be different, fine spline muncie's might have a different spline output shaft too (someone will know and post up)
fine spline clutch is not a problem, just get one it will fit.
The right hurst aftermarket shifter will bolt on to the short tailshaft.
This is my 70 Z28 M21 Muncie, it has various Bosses in the tail extension to mount the Hurst shifter using a base plate mounting bracket original to the 70.
Note the Mounting Bosses on the tail housing to locate the Shifter's mounting Plate.
I know th PIC run out there but I believe you can see most oft it. You should be able to mount this tranny in the 69 and locate the shifter where you want it.
I love this PIC
Note the Fan Belt and hoses on the engine - Talk about anticipation ;o)
