4l80e differences

A few weeks back I had the option to purchase a 4l80e for $250 from a 93 chev, but someone told me it wouldn't be a good choice for my car because it's too old, so I lost it. I'm putting an Ls1 5.7 from a 98 Camaro in my 68 and can't seem to find my answer. I know it will physically bolt up but someone said I would need special adapters for the torque converter since it didn't come from an LS platform.

Hopefully someone that knows more about this can point me in the right direction. Are there any differences that I need to worry about when putting it behind an ls1? I've since found another one from a 97 Chev truck for $400, but again it's from an LT platform and not an LS.

Look at a 4L60e or a 4L65e. From a Tahoe or Escalade. They bolt up without adapter and no tunnel mods.

They won't handle the horsepower I'm going to put through it. Probably going to have my LS1 bored and stroked, still acquiring LS6 upgrades, going to port/polish my own heads and eventually it's going to be Procharged since I get it at cost. My shop is an authorized dealer so I get a nice discount.

Still gonna have to build the 80. I had one of Jakes 4L80s with a manual Valve Body in a C10 with a nasty 496 a few months ago. It was a very nice tranny. (not cheap)

What LS6 parts? Cant' run the pistons with boost. The cam is not good for boost. The intake is fine but for boost I'd go with a Ported LS2 and the 90mm TB 243 heads ported and polished are good.

If your rotating assembly is good and you don't bore and stroke you can run 317s to lower compression. With a decent blower cam and 8-10 lbs boost you'll see close to 600 rwhp
