Battery that works perfect with R59 delco battery cover

finally, after much research, and reading through tons of old posts, and some trial and error, I've found a battery that is a perfect fit for the delco R59 battery cover. It fit without any trimming or modification what so ever. All I had to do was paint the battery. The battery that is a perfect fit is an Interstate MT-24.

I wiped the battery (white part on the sides) with isopropyl rubbing alchohol (to clean it), scuffed it with a scuff pad, rewiped it down, then painted it with duplicolor vinyl black paint

worked perfect, so hopefully someone will read this someday, and will know what it takes to work. Thanks

(wish I took more pics lol)

Re: Battery that works perfect with R59 delco battery cover

Earlier this year I fitted the battery topper on a new battery for my 68 Chevy II. I took the route of getting the topper first, then went shopping for a battery. The battery I got was real close to having the terminals spaced just right but with a little tweaking, I got it to fit a lot better. After I got done fitting it, all of the underside of the cover is now in contact with the top of the battery.

I did exactly the same deal on my last car, a 67 SS 396. Perfect fit and looks great after painting the battery case!

Re: Battery that works perfect with R59 delco battery cover

It would look pretty ugly as you'll have 2 empty holes on top and the side post wiring that'll look out of place and perhaps touching the cover in some way. Dimensionally whether it would fit or not depends on the size of that side post battery.

Re: Battery that works perfect with R59 delco battery cover

Thanks for the tip. A Delco battery cover is on my list of to do things. I currently have a Dekka brand in my 69 RS. Not sure if the cover would fit it? Even though I keep the current battery on a tender it is about 5 years old and may be ending its life span. I'll keep your suggestions in mind. BTW your Camaro album pictures are real nice!

Yeah the same company that makes the R59 makes an R89 and its available at all the usual places. Most times you just have to remove the handle of your battery to use the cover.
