Finally... 1968 RS

Nice to meet everyone here. I finally picked up this 68 after a long time of pestering the owner to sell it! Lesson learned is that persistence definitely pays off. The owner finally gave me the ok to come see the Camaro and later tells me that because I was so persistent, he called me first when he was ready to sell it.

Im still not sure what I have yet, but I didnt care as long as it was a 68, clean and rust free. Here is a few pics, if I am able to post them. **Im not able to post pics yet

Where do I start as far as seeing what exactly this 68 is?

Im sure Ill have a bunch more questions and look forward to the wealth of knowledge that comes with it.

Thanks

Re: Finally... 1968 RS

I put my pictures on Photobucket and then copy the links into my message.

Since you say it's an RS, I assume you know it has the hidden headlights.

You could either research other 68 RS's so see what you have (I like to cruise eBay) or you can post pictures and the experts here will tell you what you have.

What's the color? Engine? Mileage? General condition?

Re: Finally... 1968 RS

I use photobucket, but still cant post pictures. says I need more posts.

All I know so far is its an RS... Original panels, one repaint. Its an older restoration but not done over the top. Paint is very nice. Ill research the vin, trim tag stuff and engine number to see what I can find. hopefully i can post pictures soon.

Re: Finally... 1968 RS

68's are pretty bad for being able to know what you really have. The trim tag will tell you when it was built, where it was built, whether it had a 6 or 8 cylinder engine, interior type, body and roof color but not much else.

You'll learn what to look for to find out more about what you have. Even a plain jane coupe can be make to be a convincing RS, SS, or RS/SS with enough work.

Yes, I know these are easily faked.... Which is why I am not assuming nor claiming anything regarding what it originally was. And, if I cant prove it either way then so be it... My goal is to have a nice driver to enjoy on the rare sunny day in WA.

Re: Finally... 1968 RS

Welcome Josh ! Good choice on the year. I didn't realize you have to have so many posts before you can post pics ?...bummer. You best get busy posting !

CRG is the best place to start learning about your cars originality. We're here to help decipher the info or questions you may have. Here's an interesting chart describing the differences among the 68's....CRG Visual ID 1968 Model HyperTable

You should start with decoding the VIN and check the hidden partial VINs and decode the cowl tag...Camaro VIN, Cowl Tag, and other Numbers Decoding. Then check the engine codes and so on...1967-69 Camaro Drivetrain Decoding

Have fun.

Well, Holy Cow, it looks like you hit the jackpot! It presents as an RS/SS and whether it's real or not, who cares. It's gorgeous! Here are the pictures you sent me:

By the way, leave the car on the trailer and send me your address. I'll come up and "inspect" the car. If it ends up missing, I assure you it wasn't me
