Hey guys my son and I are restoring a 1968 Camaro coupe. When we bought the car it was in a million pieces and we are now trying to get it back together. When we installed the windshield we used the rolled up 3M butyl. Do you put anything on the outside of the window before installing the trim? Also I bent up the trim trying to install it.....it had gaps between the edge of the trim and the glass. Can anyone help me by telling me what I am doing wrong?
Well, from my learnings here @ TC, butyl is not the proper method for glass installation.....however many have done it that way. And some of us ,including myself have backfilled with urethane. What thickness of butyl did you use ? 3/8" should give you the proper height and a flush molding fit.
As Garfields said, 3/8 is the right stuff. It sounds like you found and used something smaller , or you used the wrong clips that were to high. The clips should have been just a little lower than the edge of the opening , about the thickness of the trim pieces..
