Re: NICB reports Available in April 2014?

I am #'s 126 & 133. Now they have posted the following on the website:

We are missing the following data:
1969 Camaro 9N508855 to 9N587275
1970 Chevelle made in Atlanta, Seventh digit would be A.

One of my Camaros falls within that range. Does that mean I am out of luck?

Saw that too. I'd say you're out of luck, assuming it's that entire block of cars. If so, they will refund your $50, but still a disappointment; and that's quite a lot of cars missing from the GM records.....

1969 04A Van Nuys-built Z/28. Cortez Silver with dark blue interior and VE3. Raced in E/MP at Lions in LA. Now restoring!

That stinks, and yes, that is quite a large number of cars that they are missing.

Re: NICB reports Available in April 2014?

I know we are lucky up here in Canada with the Zapora reports, but there was a situation in 1969 that affected the Delivered Dealership, compared to the selling Dealership.
I don't know if this was an issue in the US, but interesting.
Back in late 1969 when the new model Camaro was due to be released, the 1969s were not selling well. Everyone was waiting to see what the new car would look like.
The local high performance dealer. Maurice Carter (of Trans am Sedan fame) had all of the excess Camaros from all over Ontario shipped to his Hamilton Ontario location. There were cars from all over Ontario. They eventually sold from his location. I purchased one at that time, it was originally from a Dealer hundreds of miles away. As well there were a lot of strange combos, low option and high option and strange color combos.
As I said this might throw up some questions if the NICB report shows the car was delivered to a certain dealer, and the owners knows the car sold from another dealer.
I don't know if this was a common practice in the US, but it did happen here.

I have owned 3 69 Z/28s: Garnet Red 30,000 mi unrestored.
Glacier Blue, documented Canadian Z
Rallye Green purchased new in 1969
1968 Camaro Coupe L30 275 horse. ]

Re: NICB reports Available in April 2014?

Sad. I saw that there was a "hole" in the records, and of course, was afraid my Camaro would fall in that hole. Fortunately for me it didn't. But, I really feel for all you guys that are affected.
Roy told us there would be some holes. Even for the Corvette crowd, they can only help about 93% of the owners.

Unhappy Re: NICB reports Available in April 2014?

If I'm reading that right then that will leave all of the early pre X coded cars out.

Yes 9N580532

Nothing on NICB and NCRS GM shipping report.

And yes # 13 is a unlucky number

For now but maybe not forever Matt.

Basically Sept 1968 through Jan 1969 production from Norwood are not in the batch of microfiche they converted. As I understand it the Shipping records archives they have been converting were in sad shape as they had been ignored for a long time as NCRS committed to go back through and try to convert the almost 7 million Camaros, Nova's and Chevelles built in the time period they have shippers records for it became apparent that gaps and damaged microfiche would be encountered. Early documentation on the conversion process stated so.

Quote:
The NCRS already provides shipment data, document validation and car award confirmation services for 1965 to 1972 Corvette models (with membership in the NCRS), and now it says it will attempt to offer shipping records for 1965 to 1972 Chevelles, Novas, and Camaros as well. The service is expected to be available before the end of 2014 and the cost to provide documentation for a single vehicle will be $50. Although most of the microfiche shipping data was found to be complete, not all of the old records are completely readable and some have been damaged. In those instances, the NCRS will refund the applicant’s money.
One can only hope that once the bulk of usable records were input to the system that the data conversion team went back and is taking a second look at the damaged archives and attempting to recover as much data from each sheet of film they can.

As to the long missing build data production records, Terry Michaelis, president of Pro Team Corvette, still has a one million dollar standing offer to anyone who is in possession of any of the original GM build production records for Chevrolet in paper or microfiche form. We all know somewhere in Detroit some retired GM employee has squirreled away the mother-lode of productions from Chevrolet's muscle car hay-day. It is clearly a shame that NCIB destroyed all the paper records it possessed at one time as they were a direct copy of the original production and shippers records for most vehicles or one or the other for the rest in this time period.

I would keep hitting the website and see if they add any records as the process moves forward.

None so far. The website only lists Norwood VINs in that one block as being an issue.

I am curious as to why if in pre live press releases they said that there was missing data, why that block of Norwood VIN's was not posted front and center when the page went live? Better yet program the system to reject requests from vins not on the system so you can spare the owners from false hopes just to get a refund in 24 hours. JMHO
