How does your age affect retro styling preferences?

The new Camaro has certainly generated a healthy buzz. There are a wide range of opinions about the car everywhere you look. Some folks love it as-is, while others wish the design had captured a little more of first-gen retro styling, similar to the Mustang and new Challenger.

This poll seeks to see if age plays a factor in retro style preferences.

Re: How does your age affect retro styling preferences?

Very interesting, at 51 I personally like the hints of 1st gen in it with it's modern flair. I have a 1st gen and wonder though, along with age if owning a 1st gen influences ones opinions?

Re: How does your age affect retro styling preferences?

I just snuck into the 41-50 group, thank goodness.

I just like a nice lookin car, and the new Camaro is it. It needs (and has) just enough retro. It's not 1968 any more, and when I need it to be, I got one in the garage.

Re: How does your age affect retro styling preferences?

I vote I am 41 - 50 and wish it was more first-gen retro styled but I haven't seen it in person yet. I own a 1969 and 2002 Camaro. I'm leaning towards buying a 2010 or what ever year it is now. LOL

Re: How does your age affect retro styling preferences?

I think it's going to be interesting just to see the demographic here, in general

I'm just under the wire in the 41-50 crowd, and I chose the option of wishing it was more retro looking. Not exactly like a 1st gen of course, but closer than it is. Having said that, as I stated elsewhere, I think it's sleek, stylish, elegant, and cool.....all at the same time.

Re: How does your age affect retro styling preferences?

I am 46 and saw the car in person and realy like it, sometimes a new style has to grow on you but this style is a hit the first time you see it. I would have liked to see it come out as a 2009 but still am going to get it in 2010. I don't realy think you could make it look like a first gen anymore than what it does I am happy with the design and cant wait to have one sitting next to my 69.I guess its to heach his hown.

Re: How does your age affect retro styling preferences?

I'm at the tail end of the 41 - 50 group and only have this to add. I own a '69 Camaro RS/SS. I've also owned a number of vintage guitars and amplifiers over the years, and I'm struck by some of the similarities. Sure, you can go out and buy a "new" Fender Stratocaster today, and it will even have some technological improvements over a '60s Strat, but the tone and feel of a vintage '60s model will make the new one seem like it doesn't even belong in the same room. Those things have soul, just like a vintage Camaro. Chevrolet has done a great job of bringing back the Camaro, probably as it should be in 2008, 2009 or whenever they roll it out. I like the design very much. But cars, like many other things, just aren't built with the same raw edge and great design as they were in the past. So enjoy the new Camaro, but it could never be a replacement for your first gen.

Re: How does your age affect retro styling preferences?

I'm in the 41-50 group and voted more retro. That being said, I think as others have stated it looks a little too much like a caddy. But, that does'nt mean I won't buy one. After all ,I'm in dire need of a vert and can't seem to find a first gen that I can justify restoring.

Re: How does your age affect retro styling preferences?

"I am under 30 and wish it was more first-gen retro styled" the front end is not working for me. A wider grill and bigger head lights would be the best way to go!

Re: How does your age affect retro styling preferences?

Im 57 and I like the car BUT without hidden headlights its not the car I had hoped for. A new mustang you can tell a mile away what it is, same with the challenger but if you dont know the new camaro is a camaro, on the street 6 blocks away, most folks wont have a clue.
If they just stuck hidden headlights on it, that would give it away at a mile. After a few years they could then get more modern and the camaro would have gotten a foot hold again.
They also better have SS models and badges available or they loose more points

I'm at the high end of the 41-50 crowd, just barely The new Camaro has grown on me. I think I would have loved it with more 1st gen looks, but I like it the way it is too. If I have the money and the timing is right, I will get one. Convertible of course, so I have to wait a little longer
