View Full Version : Having a 200r4 built. What questions to ask?
mnm99 Feb 2nd, 07, 01:18 PM I was quoted from a good performance tranny builder in my area. He quoted me $2300 complete installed. Included new tranny lines, 2400 stall, dipstick, and would handle 600hp. Like I said he is well know in my area for performance transmissions. What should I ask about whats being installed in the internals? Bands? drums?servos? ect.... I hate haveing other people do stuff to my car but somethings just can't be done!
Thanks
KevinW Feb 2nd, 07, 01:54 PM Marc, what is the name of the builder? CK performance? There a different levels of internals that are used depending on application and torque. The biggest worry with overdrive trans is the TV system. which one are you getting? Setting the TV system with a pressure gauge is the most important step for having the trans live.
BTW, there is a lot of info on these trannys on the web. look for 700r4 info too, the upgrades are similar.
mnm99 Feb 2nd, 07, 03:11 PM No not CK. He's in rocky point near me. It's a Dr nicks, but he does alot of HP transmissions. I think he's trying to get rid of his name because he pays high franchise fees. Not sure about the gauge but I know about the pressure thing. Installed to me means installed?? I would quess he would check that.

mnm99 Feb 4th, 07, 03:37 PM Thanks for the info. With the cost of some of those parts I'm wondering what is REALLY going in the transmission. $2300 for everything including new lines makes me wonder. How could I tell whats really going in there? Anybody could tell you anything. I guess trust plays a big part.

He should be giving you an itmeized breakdown of parts and labor. If not, ask for one, if he refuses I'd take my $$$ elsewhere.
kustomwerker Feb 4th, 07, 07:01 PM th eturbo guys really have the 2004r down pat on the turbobuick.com website...talk to chris, brian or donnie there...they really know what they`re doing, and i`ve heard them running tons of power to them...i just recently removed ours from our 70 blown nova, and until we hit about 740 hp, the 2004r was really reliable...ofcorse, now we just had it rebuilt, and shelved it in favor of a tko600...not as quick, but more fun slammin gears...

I bought mine off of Brian Hoffer, username Brian, on turbobuick.com and have been happy with it. I know there are others here, 67FamilyFun, using his trans.
