View Full Version : Has anyone tried the Powertrax lock right???
dubs68camaro Feb 2nd, 07, 04:39 PM I saw it awhile back on horsepower TV (spike) and thought it was pretty neat. Called Powertrax and they said they work great (imagine that), but the guy that set up my 9 inch in my '68 said he's got a box full of them and they'er junk. As anyone used them and how do they hold up???? Thanks!
big gear head Feb 2nd, 07, 06:01 PM I've had a Lock Right in my 4X4 truck for over 10 years and it hasn't given me any problems. It works great, as long as you don't mind the popping and jerking from time to time. I think the No-Slip is junk. The Lock Right and E-Z Locker are good.
Jim H Feb 3rd, 07, 10:06 AM I had one in my 36 Ford with a nine inch. I end up pulling it out a going with the limited slip posi. It being a four 4speed car, I found the down shifting annoying, during corning most. If you didn't hit the RPM just right, the car would begin to jerk until you either stepped on the throttle or the clutch. Plus I found the racheting durng sharp low speed turn loud and annoying. It worked great in a straight line, but overall, I didn't like the drivablity. Maybe an automatic would be more forgiving?

I bet it would really be a winner if you would make a list of all the names of all the limited slip rears and then also list what type they are for guys like me that flat don't know but a few of them..

Sounds like I might want to stay away then because I have a 4 speed and 15.5 wide tires which would magnafy the clicking problem.
big gear head Feb 3rd, 07, 01:55 PM The Lock Right for the 9 inch Ford uses the stock side gears as part of the locker. I don't like the way that one is set up. The rest of them have a much better system with special made drivers and couplers that work a lot better. If you want a locker in a 9 inch Ford the best way to go is with a Detroit Locker. I have one of them in my 4 speed pro street Camaro and it works fine.

These are the parts in the 9 inch Ford Detroit Locker.

This is how the Lock Right is made for all rear ends except the 9 inch Ford.
dubs68camaro Feb 3rd, 07, 02:17 PM Well now that's interesting. I'm using it in a GM truck 12 bolt. Maybe they work better in that setup.
big gear head Feb 3rd, 07, 02:36 PM If you had an automatic transmission I would say go for it, but with your 4 speed and the large tires you might want to use something else. I installed one of these in a '88 Chevy 4X4 with a manual transmission and large tires and the guy came back a few months later and had me take it back out. It popped and jerked too much for him. My 4X4 has 30 inch tires on it with a 5 speed and it doesn't bother me. My brother had one in his 4X4 with an automatic and you couldn't even tell he had one. What do you plan on doing with this truck?

I want to make sure we know this is not a 4x4. It's a '68 SWB, about 4,000 lbs. It's getting a 460 BBC with a shade over 400hp. It will be in front of a true M-22. The truck has 3.73 gear. I want to bump around town and get sideways when I bang 2nd gear. Pretty simple huh? I also want my passengers to scream "oh golly"!!!! lol
big gear head Feb 3rd, 07, 06:30 PM The Lock Right might be good for that. I would prefer the Eaton if it were mine, but the Lock Right is a little easier to install. Have you priced them yet?
