: Hidden type antenna?
HwyStarJoe Jul 27th, 01, 07:46 AM Hi folks,
I have the original antenna that came with my '69 but I don't want to put it back on. It must have been on the back panel because there's no hole for it on the front fender. The backs have been replaced and none of the holes have been cut for the markers, etc. and I want to leave it that way. Is there a magic hidden antenna available that I can adapt to the stereo that fits above the headliner or up along the pillar or something?
I need a new windshield which I'll have no problem getting. Is there one made that has the antenna inside it?
Thanks all!

bretcopsey Jul 27th, 01, 08:40 AM Check Classic Camaro's catalog in the stereo section. They have an "invisible" antenna that I think is supposed to be routed inside the engine compartment (not 100% sure about that-but they do have one)

HwyStarJoe Jul 27th, 01, 08:45 AM A friend has one hidden in his car and it's a Dakota Digital but their web site doesn't show it. I emailed them but haven't gotten a response.
I'll check my catalogs again Bret. Thanks
gheatly Jul 27th, 01, 11:26 AM Check out the Crutchfield web site. I believe they have antennas that will mount horizontally in the trunk.

rick Jul 27th, 01, 03:17 PM The Street Rod crowd frequently use a hidden antenna. I found the Dakota Digital Unit at www.yogisinc.com (http://www.yogisinc.com) for $69.00 - but no picture. The hidden antenna here: http://www.streetrodding.com/search.cfm?searchFor=parts&bizName=Hotronics is similar to what I've seen in some mags. But I don't have any idea how well it works.

ohayden Jul 27th, 01, 05:26 PM They used to call them pig tails, it's was basicly a "wire" that runs inside the dash and or engine compartment. Now they are a bit more advanced and you can find one here:

Ahh their website blocks direct connections, just click on the drop down and choose audio air conditioning and then click search. It's the "Screentronic in Car" antenna.
It's about $40, if you buy it or another, please let me know if you like it. I'm in the market for one also just havbe a few other priorities first.
Looks like the other one posted.
Good luck!

zzre Jul 29th, 01, 11:15 AM My 67 came with a hidden antenna when I bought it several years ago. The cord ran through the firewall and connected to an antenna mounted on the drivers side part of the radiator support. The cord is an intergal part of the antenna. In other words it doesn't disconnect from the antenna.
I cannot vouch for it's authenticity but it works alright and it is a nice antenna. It sure beats looking at one sticking out of the sheet metal.

Unreal Jul 30th, 01, 05:49 PM I saw an AM/FM antenna mounted in the trunk, up under the rear deck (my mom always called that the "back porch") Anyone know if that works OK?
Another thought, I originally bought an AM/FM setup, for my car, but later bought the AM setup, to be more correct. I was just looking at both of them, and other than the mast itself, the only difference appears to be the plug into the radio is an elbow on the AM/FM, and straight on the AM. Are they the same, otherwise?
Would I get good FM reception, using the AM mast?
Could I use the FM mast for cruising, and replace it with the AM mast for shows?
My "stock" radio will be just for looks, I'm putting a modern stereo/CD in the glove box. Any advice would be appreciated.
67427BB Jul 31st, 01, 06:15 PM I bought one from Radio Shack. 7 dollars. Plugs in the back of radio, grounds to the dash, tapes to the pass side of windshield, then horizontally up to the rearview mirror. With the molding on, can't see it from inside the car or the outside. Good luck
Cam35068 Aug 2nd, 01, 01:28 PM STOP EVERYTHING!!! I bought one from Classic Industries. Works beautifully. Plugs right into the radio and attaches to the accessory switch for power. I routed mine up the right A-pillar (behind the cover) and it sticks to the windshield and cannot be seen from the outside because of the factory tint and is hidden from the inside by the the sunvisor. highly recommended.

HwyStarJoe Aug 3rd, 01, 02:03 AM Garrett,
How much did it cost?
Cam35068 Aug 3rd, 01, 03:34 PM Yeah, that was the problem, it was 60 bucks. But like I said, it was easy to install, is practically invisible from the inside and out, and it gave me better reception than my dad's '99 miata.
