I am restoring my 67 RS and am ready to re-install the heater core and heater box from the inside. I bought new underlayment (felt mat under carpet for the firewall) and it seems as though it is meant to be installed so that it is between the heater box and the floor pan. This would put the rubber and felt between the two. Is this correct, or should the heater box be installed up against the metal of the floor pan and the carpet underlayment trimed around it.

The mat goes in between the heater box and the floor pan.
