I have a 2 core radiator in a 383, nothing real radical, stock shroud with flex fan. I am running hot even on cool days and at a stop it is overheating. I have some leaks at the water neck. I have changed up the water neck and manifold. I am looking at buying a electric fan to cool it . What size should I be looking at to get proper cooling?

hi flow water pump, >aluminum rad out of a late model<, the electric fan....

I got a 90 iroc to fit with little trouble...in previous first/second gens...

A stock 3-core radiator, factory shroud, factory fan and clutch will cool it with no problem; most "catalog-engineered" cooling systems don't work anywhere near as well as the correct original system the car was built with.

fix the leaks and that will help.
also flush the radiator and probly get a better fan.
I got a 383 and never had a problem with cooling.
Im betting something on your set up is wrong or broken.
btw does the lower hose have a spring in it?
if not that can be the cause of major overheating issues,

No, I have no spring in the lower hose. I keep having the leak problem, fixed it 3 times, so I'm getting a new manifold, thinking maybe it's warped. Also thinking maybe the water pump is broke. I don't want to just buy new stuff, but I can't seem to figure out what is cauing the overheating.

Using what you have provided here...

1. leak means loss of pressure, loss of pressure means lower boiling point. Lower boiling point is more heat.
2. Overheating at a stop is not enough air flow through the rad core when the car isn't moving. That's a fan and shroud issue typically.
3. flex fans tend to flatten out at higher rpm and block air from flowing through the core.

So... fix the leak, try one of the corvette o-ring gaskets and no sealer. Take a straight edge to the surface of housing and the manifold to see if either is warped. Then get the low dollar 5 blade fan and non-thermo clutch from summit and make sure the fan is 1/2 to 3/4 into the shroud. If your water pump and core are not plugged I bet that will get you going without overheating and for minimal cost...

is the waterpump something you found kicking around your garage???some newer long pumps are reverse rotation...that would screw up your day...lol...

dude that 2 core rad has gtg get at least a 3 core and you dont need an electric fan unless you realy want to invest in that... fix your leak and get a 3 core rad .. a good thermostat (high flow one is good!!) make sure your fan is the proper distance from your rad too close is no good to far isnt good either.

I agree with JohnZ and the KISS (keep it simple stupid) method the less crap you have the less crap you have to go wrong
