The 67 Camaro I purchased has a 2004 Tranny with a B&M Lockup wiring kit. The problem I encounter is on the freeway when it lockups. If I use the passing gear it doesn't unlock & it doesn't feel like it downshifts either. I know it dowsn't unlock b/c there B&M unit has a green light when it is in lockup & its red otherwise. The light stays green when I goose it to try & pass a slow driver. It's a sluggish pass since there doesn't seem to be an unlock. Is this right. The B&M unit has a knob that you turn while driving the speed you want it to lock. It seems to unlock only when I go below that speed. Am I supposed to downshift to 3rd to overtake a car? I havn't been able to drive it much since I bought it, but during street driving it shifts great & downshifts fine, it's just freeway speed that seems to be a problem.

That would seem to be the only solution if the lockup point is set by vehicle speed and you want to go faster than that speed. Maybe you could put an override button in series with your solenoid to unlock it whenever it's pushed.

It just seems unusal that it doesn't unlock if you accelerate. The instructions I downloaded doesn't mention it is suppose to unlock if you floor it while it is locked up. I guess it's not designed too?
The othe issue I see is when I try to go to wot from a standstill. The converter will lockup when I reach the 60mph setting. It would seem like a pain to constantly turn the knob to higher lockup speed whenever I wanted to go to wot.
Maybe I should remove it & install one of the brake switch lockups like you have mentioned in past messages.

That is why I like the painless kit. It uses a vacum switch and brake light switch so that it will always lock up in 4th gear but if you accelerate more than just really mildly then the converter unlocks or if you hit the brakes it unlocks.

You want the vacuum switch setup along with the brake switch. The next thing to look at is your governor. It can affect the kickdown also. Get a governor from a Monte SS or a Buick GN. If the tranny came from a dog like a diesel then you are shifting and locking way too early.

Could also be the TV cable adjustment, in fact that would be first thing I'd check. When you give it gas it should downshift to 3rd automatically and unlock. If you can, try bypassing the B&M switch by just running 12v keyed on to the lockup circuit. If it still acts the same (passing on the freeway) then you can rule out that as the culprit.

you should look int the painless kit like 1stgen says...it only locks up in 4th...it will not lock up in 3rd, because theres a pressure switch in the kit that screws into the 4th gear pressure port only...these kits are all over ebay for cheap money...i dont think they used these trannys on a diesel...

I like being able to lock/unlock the converter at any point I desire. If I happen to be cruising around in third gear or towing a trailer, I can lock the converter quickly and prevent my converter from getting hot. It's also worth a significant chunk of e.t in the quarter.

you can also just install an override switch to the power wire...term b i think and lock it whenever you want...thats how i`m doing it in my 79...

They did use these trannies in diesels. If you do not have a vacuum switch to unlock the torque converter then it will not downshift properly. You have to unlock the converter first. You will see the same thing if you do not unlock the converter when you hit the brakes. The proper systems either use a vacuum switch or are controlled by a computer. You want the brakes to release the converter also. Next in line is you better have the speedo gears set properly. They all work in conjunction with each other. Governors will control the shift points and the feel. I have been through all of these issues already. Stay away from the non pressure switch lockups.

ghost, for my own personal knowledge, what diesels???i didnt think they put them behind diesels because of the torque rating of the 200, but i hate to give someone incorrect info...
