I put a new radiator in a friends 1997 Camaro with the LT1 and was having NOTHING but trouble getting this thing to burp all the air out. The bleeder screw was almost useless. After consulting the Heating-Cooling Forum on this site that evening, the first thing I did in the morning was procure a Mr. Gasket High Flow Thermostat in the recommended temp. rating. I was going to drill (4) 1/8" holes in the existing NEW thermostat that was recently installed by someone else, as recommended in this forum, but I wanted a known quality part in this thing, not some unknown quality part.
The next thing I did was consult "Yoda" at my local parts house. He and I go back aways and he has never steered me wrong. He turned me onto this trick set-up made by Lisle. It is called the SPILL-FREE FUNNEL and is Lisle Part#22150. That is THE best $28.00 I have spent in 10 years. All I did was hook this thing up per the instructions and start the engine. After it warmed up and the thermostat opened you could see this thing burping itself. And if you follow the directions you really don't spill a drop taking it off.
Thought I would pass this trick on to all you guys having cooling trouble, it was not hard to find you all either, one quick search on Google did it. Seems like a fairly common problem among the Camaro crowd. Hope this helps somebody because it sure made my day easier. I will be using this on anything I work on in the future as it comes with adapters for different kinds of filler necks too.
Keep spinning your own wrenches,
Bill
