View Full Version : NEW 69 CONVERTIBLE BODY SHELLS
crusty69 Nov 22nd, 03, 05:14 AM Ive been working on a 69 convertible for awhile trying to piece it together the best I can, checking for new parts on Ebay, I saw today that thepartsplaceinc is taking orders for 69 convertible body shells due out this spring and maybe 67 and 68's too, for about $5000. Sounds like a new Camaro could be built from scratch next year but I guess someone like Ground Up will sell the whole kit assembled or unassembled. I wonder what that will do to the value of the rusty old restored Camaros?
OverAnxious Nov 22nd, 03, 07:09 AM you can buy an entire shell??
What about VIN information? Will these be considered kit/assembled cars?
I can see HUGE problems with this....
angelglo Nov 22nd, 03, 07:11 AM ac cobras didnt have a problem with that. i hope my 69 veft will be worth as much as an ac cobra. we are just going to have to look harder to see if they are the real thing or not. i dont think it will depreciate the value any, especially if its the real thing.

Let's be reasonable, the parts exist in pieces today, we now have full floors, firewall, cowl...doesn't take a whole lot to do the rest and take a big % of the market from other repro suppliers. Most of the really good new stuff is perfect, I just did a full floor and it was a breeze, the extra seat supports/clips and stamping was great. The one big gap is convertible rockers!!!!This is major work and needs big time tooling to be correct..a mix of formed + shaped + stamped, for those of us who built one, this seperates the solid cars from the scary ones.
Also, when the parts add to $4000 today for the total available parts this kit of the future ain't going to be the same price + $1000.
In my opinion, Unless you get a VIN from another Camaro and fudge moving it,,,the car is NOT a Camaro...it's a Camaro Replica.
My $0.02

KevinW Nov 23rd, 03, 04:43 AM I agree with Arno about the rockers not being available. Lots of work to make them!
Unique convert parts also not available yet are:
Windsheild frame, Door support (heavier for convert), rear qtr inside panels, rear pieces of center support. Non unique parts needed are lower dash and firewall subframe supports.
I would think those have to show up in repro before you could make the whole shell.
crusty69 Nov 23rd, 03, 07:52 AM The new 1 piece floor that I just bought has 2 pieces that are not available seperatly. The right and left stamped pieces that are between the front of the rear frame rail and the floor on a convertible. I think a unrestored car will always be worth more that a replica but I also think that no one will buy a basket case camaro to retore when they can just bolt together a brand new one unless they buy it for the vin and body tag.
MrAbody Nov 24th, 03, 06:19 AM Crusty69, where did you see this? I don't see it on their website?
Thnaks!
crusty69 Nov 24th, 03, 03:00 PM Its on Ebay. Do a search for Camaro trunk. When you see a complete trunk for a 68, read the add and it says they are taking orders for 69 conv. body shells

RickD Nov 26th, 03, 06:21 AM I wonder how complete and accurate (dimensionally) the shell will be? It looks great for the industry in general.
