What kind of plastic was used in a first gen dash and Astro vent ducts.
Can it be glued?

Hey Jim!
The plastic is ABS and no it can't be glued. It can be welded though, and best welded with this stuff. It used a chemical and powder filler to weld with and not heat. I've seen heat welders do just as much damage as they attempt to repair!

I used it on my Vintage Air evaporator and my dash for my RHD conversion, and I will also repair an old console with it too. Great stuff.

I dont think its ABS, abs is flexible. I use JB weld to fix mine. Seems OK.

Hi Steve,
As I noted to Kevin this stuff could be pollypro and you can really do anything with that stuff except replace it.
Hows your ride comming?

I used regular JB weld to rebuild the lower steering cover tabs. Worked fine and adhered well. I just painted the JB weld too. The 327 car might be painted by late summer :D I am ignoring the SS.

If it is ABS it can be glued. Go to your home improvement center and buy some ABS adhesive in the plumbing section. It works great. If you can get to the back side and have room you can put a reinforcement on the backside and it is even stronger than before broken. If you don't have any scrap a piece of an old VHS tape will work well.

I reconstructed a console ashtray hingepin boss using 2-part plastic gas tank epoxy "clay" and it seems to hold up very well. I used a small washer of appropriate size to reinforce the hingepin boss and to keep everything aligned as it dried. I also repaired a small housing crack from the underside using regular 2-part (in a syringe) black epoxy. Maybe I used the wrong stuff, but its working.

The next challenge is repairing an instrument cluster where the repairs might be much more easily seen.
