I did a search and here is what I understand for paint a steering wheel back to factory standards:

1) Sand to get a tooth
2) Spray on a layer of adhesion promoter.
3) Spray on a layer of urethane primer.
4) Spray on a layer of urethane color (black)
5) Spray on a layer of clear coat.
6) Spray on a layer of urethane sealer.

Wow, that's a lot of painting http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif Is this correct? Is this the correct order of painting? I really don't want to have to do this again, my fingers are killing me because I insisted on sanding it down by hand instead of blasting. Where is a good place to buy the paint (Ricks, NDP, other)?

I repainted a blue 67 deluxe wheel to black. I filled a couple of small cracks with epoxy filler, sanded, primed, sanded again with fine grit paper and painted black. Used spray can krylon. I did not use the clear but still came out nice.

First check for damage. If you have damage, repair your damage, adhesion promoter and prime (let fully dry). Sand your primer with 400-600 grit by hand (wet), apply a coat of sealer, then 2-3* coats of base coat (or urathane single stage), last clear 2-3* coats (not nessisary if urathane single stage was used).
* amount (coats) needed will very with paint manufacturer.
