: Stinger Style Hood
67_RS Nov 22nd, 00, 05:17 PM I am thinking about buying a fiberglass hood because of the condition of my original. I would like something different and thought one of the Baldwin-Motion hoods would look nice, since my car is a 67 and I like the stinger hood, I am leanig that way, anyone had any expierence with the VFV hoods? Or any suggestions on anywhere else, are they still available from Motion? Thanks

67_RS Nov 23rd, 00, 10:29 AM The hood that I was thinking of was different than you picture, it has a higher point that comes out to the front and two scoops like on the side, I think it is the corvette stingray scoop style that I want. I think the one you have pictured is the L88 hood. What about the fit? do they work good?
POP D TOP Nov 23rd, 00, 05:59 PM I have a '67 Sting Ray that was originally a big block and still has the "stinger" hood. While no that's not EXACTLY a "stinger" hood, It's probably as close as you'll get without simply adding the big block Vette scoop to your flat hood. The main difference I can see from the picture is, the opening at the front is actually two openings divided by the stock Camaro's crease in the hood's centerline vs. the approximately 6" wide bulge in the center of Vette's that comes to a point at the front of the car. By the way, there is NO opening at the front of a '67 Vette's "scoop". It's only functionality was carb clearance, unless you got an extremely rare air box/COWL induction setup.
The hood pictured definitely isn't L-88 style, that again has an opening available only at the back. What it looks like to me is a pretty good reproduction of a hood I saw on what I remember as a MOTION '67 or '68 (that's what you were looking for anyway...right?). Not factory, not very common, but way cool if you ask me. Looks a bit like the Nassau Grand Sports in '63.

POP D TOP Nov 23rd, 00, 06:58 PM Pretty cool! I've never seen one of those before. Man is there anything you CAN'T get to modify a first generation Camaro? Personally I like the "Motion" hood better.
Hey, everyone's got an opinion and that's just mine. Whatever turns your crank.

67_RS Nov 24th, 00, 01:34 PM Anyone had any expierence with the steel repo cowl hood from year one? or other suppliers? I know this isn't the time to be cutting cost, but it is over a hundred dollars cheaper, and functional. Never see any first generations around here so I guess I don't have to worry too much about copying everyone else using the cowl hood. Any comments on fit and finish of the repro cowl? thanks I love the stinger hood from the above post, anyone ever used it? does it fit good? I might just have to spend the extra bucks, it really does look cool

POP D TOP Nov 24th, 00, 02:22 PM Yeah, I got one built by Goodmark. It arrived in good shape, fits great, and looks like every other cowl inducted 1st gen running around the streets out here(you'd think GM built FLAT hoods as a rare option). But that's OK...it makes MY Camaro look even cooler. You might do well to remember that this site is sponsored by GROUND UP RESTORATIONS and give them first shot when you start checking up on whatever hood you decide on.

gheatly Nov 25th, 00, 12:36 PM The Motion Performance hood isn't much more expensive than the others. I got the L-88 style hood (street version) and lightweight springs and with shipping, it came to around $300.
The hood is of a good quality. Small waves were easily sanded out. I didn't like the rough finish on the underside though. Oh, well...

Austin Nov 25th, 00, 02:06 PM POP D Top,
Just wondering about the packaging your goodmark hood came in. I got a cowl hood from NPD they told me it was goodmark, but the pagaging had a taiwan sticker on it. I called them about it and they told me it was indeed goodmark. I'm a bodyman, and I must say the hood looks great, but I was under the impression goodmark was a US made product.

POP D TOP Nov 25th, 00, 02:53 PM I just happen to still have the packaging (its' under my engine stand catching drips). I took a look and sure enough, says right on it "MADE IN TAIWAN". I too thought they were American made. I was kinda insistent about getting a GOODMARK one for that reason, after constantly hearing about "all the cheap junk they're shipping us from overseas". But there you have it...it seems everyone agrees that this is a good part, and it certainly wasn't stamped in the U.S.
Who knew?
