I did a search last week and saw your ball joint seperator on you site. A friend helped me build one....what a great piece on equipment for $6!!!
I used it this weekend to disassemble the the front end on my 68 Camaro. We used square tubing, that allowed me to hold it with a big adjustable. I'm certain I seperated at least two ball joints that weren't apart since 1968.
Thanks for that great idea.

squid Feb 12th, 07, 12:57 PM I concur. Mr. Pozzi's website is invaluble, and every time I search the forums his name usually comes up. If there was anyway TC could hand out an award, David Pozzi should be the first to recieve. Something like the Camaro Medal of Honor.

David has one of the best info sites on the web - unfortunately it's been down the last couple times I've tried to refer to it :o

davidpozzi Feb 12th, 07, 03:08 PM Thanks all,
I've been having problems loading my webpage since last thursday. Unfortunately last Thursday AM I underwent Tonsillectomy surgery and haven't been able to speak loud enough on the phone to call my tech support people.
I just sent another email to them that It's still not loading. They say they can load it on their computers, but I tried 3 compuers here and it still won't load.
Improving my Camaro's suspension and handling has been one of the most rewarding hobbies I've had. In the early days, I was in an autocross series locally that had monthly autocrosses during the summer. I'd read what textbooks I could find on handling and suspension, develop ideas while driving a tractor at work on our farm during the day. Then at night try to make changes to my Camaro to keep it ahead in the points. I knew I needed to make at least one improvement every month to stay ahead.
Eventually I want to organize my website better and make it searchable. But I keep finding things to add to it all the time. :)

Black Z Feb 13th, 07, 06:21 PM Where is the info on the ball joint seperator on the site, I can not find it? I have a lower ball joint that I can not get seperated? Thanks
X33D80 Feb 13th, 07, 06:40 PM I agree that David Pozzi's web site and his technical advise are invaluable to our hobby. Thank you David!

David
I see it now. How exactly does it work? Thanks
davidpozzi Feb 13th, 07, 10:50 PM It is mainly for separating balljoints without damage to the dust boots. Normally a "pickle fork" is used but they tear up the seals, not a problem when you are replacing the balljoints.
With this tool, you back off the balljoint nuts a couple of turns each, then insert the too between the ends of the upper and lower balljoints, then crank them apart. I drilled a shallow depression in each end to keep the tool from slipping off the balljoints. I use a longer bolt in the same tool for use with taller spindles like second gen camaros.
clill Feb 14th, 07, 07:17 AM I hope Mary has been feeding you ice cream....
davidpozzi Feb 14th, 07, 01:31 PM clill,
Yes, she's been taking very good care of me!
I knew it would be painful, but not THIS painful! I'm kinda sorry I had it done, at this stage of recovery, but at least now I'll no longer have swollen tonsils 3-4 months of the year like I had before.

Vintage 68 Feb 14th, 07, 01:37 PM Wow Dave - I think I had them out when I was like 7 ...
I only got Jello though - still don't like the stuff :D
davidpozzi Feb 14th, 07, 02:28 PM I am eating some Jello, but I don't really like the stuff that much. I had Mary bring home some ice cream cups and I'm slurping those down.
My throat looks like a mess! I'll spare you the details. The worst part was when I woke up from surgery, the doc had told me he would shoot Novacane in there and I'd be numb to go home. But he didn't do that and the nurse gave me something in the IV before they took it out. She asked me how much it hurt, I said "5", but really it was an 8 or 9, but I was so groggy I wasn't thinking right. She finally gave me enough to get me out of there but the first day was super painful.

musclecarjohn Feb 14th, 07, 02:51 PM sorry to hear about your procedure Dave, hope you're feeling better.
davidpozzi Feb 14th, 07, 03:13 PM John,
Sorry I couldn't help you out last weekend.
It sounds like you have electrical gremlins!
Did you check your battery voltage? MSD needs a minimum voltage or it will fizzle out.

I usually attach a test plug to the coil secondary output wire. Then crank the engine and you should generate a spark over almost a 3/8" long gap.
If you don't want to crank the engine you can take the trigger wires from distributor to box, and short them together with a paper clip, then remove it, this will trigger the MSD and produce a spark. This bypasses the distributor, so if this works and cranking it didn't work, the distributor pickup is bad.

Ooooh! I think I'm having a relapse! :noway:
smiller Feb 15th, 07, 04:44 PM I concur on the medal. He helped me a great deal with a recent manual to power steering upgrade. I'd buy him dinner with a maitai if he ever came to Maui.

RickD Feb 16th, 07, 11:51 AM At least you weren't given ether which was the choice way back when that I had to endure as a kid!
I too blame David for my journey with it's costs and giggles :)
davidpozzi Feb 16th, 07, 08:52 PM Thanks again.
Back to the Pro-Touring subject. I did the common improvements to my Camaro long ago; converting to discs, adding wider wheels and tires, stiffer springs and anti-roll bars changed my Camaro from a nice stock cruse around car to something equal to a new Corvette, (this was in the early 70's).
I'm not much on names, - Pro-Touring or whatever you want to call it, I just like cars that go, handle, and stop well. I figured out early on that I didn't want just a straight line type of car, I wanted all around performance.

PS, my throat is doing better today, but the antibiotics are bothering my stomach now. Sheesh! what an ordeal!
Mark SC&C Feb 17th, 07, 12:09 PM Found this thread a little late but best wishes for a speedy recovery David. Much as I like ice cream that`s not the way I`d like to get it. ;) Mark SC&C
davidpozzi Feb 17th, 07, 05:24 PM Thanks, Every day is better for my throat, but now the Antibiotics are upsetting my stomach! I've lost 10 lbs which I really needed to lose anyway...
