View Full Version : 7th Gen
HwyStarJoe Feb 14th, 07, 06:48 AM I hate to say this, but I was behind a new(er) Civic vacuum cleaner yesterday and he's got a small decal in his back window that read "7thGenCivic.Com".
Do they really care what generation their vacuum cleaners are? Really?
If you go to that URL, it takes you to their 'forums' where the very first thread is named "7th Gen Members Rides Accident's and Crashes Thread'.

Ditto. Excellent commuter car, good for getting back and forth to work, that's about it.
HwyStarJoe Feb 14th, 07, 08:34 AM I agree.... the wife has one. My point was the 'generation' deal.

Oh, I agree. I don't understand it either. I don't even know what gen my civic is, and would be ashamed if I did...

Yes, great as a commuter, silly as a "performance car" or something to "fix up" with fart pipes, etc. It is what it is, a well built, cheap commuter.
thorpe67RS Feb 14th, 07, 10:40 AM Wait another 20 years when "first gen" civics are going for 20, 30, 40 grand on up on ebay. Then we will know the end of the world is upon us. :clonk:

Funny enuff, its british green w/ white rally stripes.
mkpatrick Feb 14th, 07, 11:00 PM These guys practically assault me on the road. When I go out in my first generation(Camaro) they will sometimes flip a U and ride on my butt. At lights, they sometimes set their e-brake, this has happened twice and burn their front tires.
I used to look over and tell them I don't street race but they just put on like you're afraid to race them. I could beat them with 4 wires disconnected. I got more cubes in one cylinder than they have in there whole engine.
I think these guys are nuts.
When they do it now, I just pretend to not notice them. Like they are an annoying fly that won't go away. (tuner pest strips maybe)
My cousin, who is a cop is interested in having me drive around where he patrols while he sits hiding in wait. Waiting for the inevitable tuner idiot to try his antics.
Around in my area they are a real nuisance. About 4 blocks from me, down there was a street race that ended up with a toyota on its side in someones back yard. It mowed the fence. Nobody killed but the car ran over a kiddy pool in the process, I don't like thinking, what if there were kids playing in that back yard.
These doods think they are pro drivers. And from what I see, they are totally jealous of people that have real cars.

Brackneyc Feb 15th, 07, 06:26 AM I'm not a big Civic (or other Civic type car) fan, but what are the options for these kids if they want to dabble in cars? They sure can't afford a First Gen Camaro with the baby boomers having driven the prices out of reach for many (most)people. With gas being where it is price-wise, I cannot fault them for not wanting something that gets 10 mpg, and in may cases ends up being a rusted out piece of junk.
I guess all I'm saying is that if my son (now 12) shows any interest in cars, I'll be happy. One day, when he is doing well for himself, maybe he too can buy a rusted out old First Gen for 10,000 and fix it up.
I don't like fart can exhausts, but I don't fault these kids for thinking they are cool. I once punched two big holes in the hood of my 67 to put in a set of hood pins. Two adults at the time were giving me all kinds of crap about it. I thought it was cool, and nothing at that time would have changed my mind. The fart can thing is a phase. Making Civics run fast (in relative terms) is the craze right now for many future tuners. Turn up the radio, and the fart can sounds fade away. :)

I completely agree. Civics and the like are the , for lack of a better term, "muscle car of this generation. The first three cars I bought were a 70 Skylark, a 69 Nova and a 73 Firebird.....all pretty old at that point...but all CHEAP! Parts were easily accessible at any junkyard, they were easy to work on, and my parents and grandparents wondered why I drove these junk heaps. There is no way a kid these days can afford a real muscle car unless his parents help, and then the parts and gas alone would kill him.
I hate these tuners as much as anyone...but the reality is that I am just my grandpa now (only at 38) and can't stand to hear than noise go buy....just like he hated to hear my Nova with glasspacks go by.
Just the new generation guys.
HwyStarJoe Feb 15th, 07, 11:21 AM Yep, every generation has it's vehicle fads, along with all types of other fads. Clothes, music, cartoons (don't get me started!), food, etc.
In the 70's "sidewalk commandos" were a popular breed. Leather jackets, cut-off denim, chain wallets. I even spray-painted an iron cross on the trunk lid of my '71 Duster, and put the woofers from house speakers in the package tray holes. Oops... did I say that outloud?
;)
Hey, if they want to break down the different gens of their Civics, no biggy. It just struck me as funny.
mkpatrick Feb 15th, 07, 12:09 PM What about Cutlass, Malibus and such from 78 through the 80's. I see them sitting around in running condition for 500 bucks. I know a guy that bought one recently for 350 and it has a 305 in it, doesn't blow any smoke and he commutes in it. Even the interior was surprisingly good.
If I wanted to hotrod on a budget, I'd go with a mid-80's something, drop a 350 in it and run. Even 80's Camaro's are affordable and I think they are hella cool looking. I've seen an 86 Camaro with a BBC in it. Talk about fast.
Anyway, 350's are pretty cheap compared to other engines that make any power and a Malibu or a mid-80's something can be had very cheap. If they are into hot rodding then, fuel economy isn't a factor. As of now, I hear its not cheap at all to hotrod a tuner car. I can only imagine why, trying to make power comparable to an average 350 with 4 itty bitty cylinders has to take spray and boost or both and a lot of it.
Then, the kids wanting to hotrod, can ask their uncle Mike or their Dad or grandad for advice on what they can do to make more power with their 350 and tradition lives on. It stays in the family. Its fuel for father/son-uncle/nephew relationships.
Tradition can live on.
American tradition.
