: Toyota Team fined $100,000
jr68 Feb 14th, 07, 04:53 PM Waltrips team was fined $100,000 and 100 points for an illegal substance found in the intake manifold and on the intake valves, believed to be Sterno. He can run in the twin 125's tomorrow with a backup car but he has not practiced in it. Toyota has not made a good first impression :disco: thats too bad.
DOUG G Feb 14th, 07, 05:31 PM Pretty bad with all the know how in R&D then to go and cheat
I bet the import sites say it was fair due to some unknown reason
dragracinrs Feb 14th, 07, 05:33 PM 1000,000 to him is like 10.00 to most of us....Nothing.
The points may hurt but it is very early to say it will yet.
Although i am no toyota fan I doubt that Toyota was responsible in any way.
Waltrip is a Cheater and has ben caught before....
If nascar had any balls they would have Parked him for a few races.. That would have done more than the money and points.Remember it is about sponsers and if Napa lost the coverage he would have lost more than 100k.
Go JR. !!!!
jr68 Feb 14th, 07, 05:40 PM Go JR. !!!!
jr68 Feb 14th, 07, 05:41 PM They are also fining his Wife Buffy 100 owner points.
I didn't know she owned the team.
dragracinrs Feb 14th, 07, 05:43 PM tax purposes as well as liability i bet. also he can be paid as a driver.

Larger Dave Feb 14th, 07, 07:06 PM In Japan when an employee shames his employer he must make a formal apology and then cut off his pinky finger to show he is truly contrite. :o Wonder if his business agent read him the fine print on this one. :noway:
Larger Dave :D
rogue68 Feb 14th, 07, 07:26 PM If the NFL were run like NASCAR they'd change the football size every game and pick a different penalty for each foul.... in real time. False start? Dock the team one win. Then next time, mark of 2 yards. Its goofy.
But I'm not defending 55 - Waltrip has won very few races for as much attention as he gets.
kart11 Feb 14th, 07, 08:38 PM 100 Points is worse than the money, if he makes the race he better finish in the top 10 or so or he will start with a - then after the fifth race when they take the top 35 and he dont make those on time and is sent home it will hurt them in the wallet big time.
Codi Feb 15th, 07, 10:28 AM The way Toyota is running, it will take MWR half the season the break even in the points.
satz28 Feb 15th, 07, 11:04 AM What I don't understand is why the driver gets docked the points? In most cases I bet the driver has no idea what they have done to the car. He may have benefitted, but he can't control what the car or crew chief does to a car. Most of the drivers just get in and drive.
The fines and suspensions should be longer.
Blade Feb 15th, 07, 11:39 AM 100k short and 100point less and havent even started the season officially

Give them a little time and look out. Most of the flack coming from owners and driver alike last year about Toyota coming into the sport was not about competition or "all Americam" rah-rah...it was about money. One of the guys who said it best and someone I respect was Jack Roush,he stated that Toyota had deep pockets and would literally take the ridiculous amount being spent already on teams in Nascar to a whole new level of ridiculous.Your seeing the effect of this already with teams aligning themselves with other teams for R&D and engine programs for the greater glory of the manufacturer than it is for the individual team.If you follow racing this should all sound very "Indy-ish" cause thats what happened there with the spend race on.For me the whole thing is really sad. As a southerner and a fan of Nascar long before the craze, when you listened to it on the radio and got the Daytona500 and the Michigan race on Wide World Of Sports and that was it...I hate the direction the sport is headed in now.It really peaked in 1992 when Petty retired,Gordon started, and underdog independent Kulwicki won the Championship...I was at that last race in Atlanta...and it was great.Since that time nascars absolute facination with the almighty dollar, leaving all the old tracks for these cookie-cutter 1.5 mile ovals, and the ever younger, never paid his dues cookie cutter, aero -dependent,Jeff Gordon look-a-like,politically-correct drivers have all just driven me away from the sport. My biggest complaint is Nascars apparent embarassment for all things southern. If your a new driver You'd better loose that southern draw because that apparently is now equated with stupid I guess, and again as a southerner and someone who feels like I got them there on some level I take offense at that.Bottom line Toyota will outspend them all before its over in an effort to win...just not my sport anymore

Yea right! Who do you think is running the show over there. I blame Waltrip for it all. Do you really think he had no clue... Give me a break... The wrong guys got booted as usual... Just another attempt by Mike to be a contender. It is obvious his brother was the only race car driver in that family!
