My 2001 automatic Camaro started acting up a few days ago. When starting up hills it has little power. I checked the transmission fluid and it was low. I added some to it and that helped some. When giving the car gas it seems like the engine is working properly it just doesn't seem to accelerate like it should. Any suggestions on what could be wrong?

sky,
From your question, it sounds like you are not real familiar with car terms. I would suggest having somebody test drive the car and tell you what they think. It sounds like the transmission might be slipping pretty badly, which can result in an enegine failure as well. Take it to a trans shop and have them drive it. Does your car have a tachometer ? If so, what is it indicating when you have the problem ?

Just another suggestion. It could be your catalytic converter. I had a company Dodge van that really bogged down going up hills, I could only go 35-40 mph, the rest of the time it ran well. I took it to the Dodge dealership and they replaced the Cat. Van ran great after that.

i was thinking a cat. converter also. being it is a 2001 it may still covered under an emissions warranty. the warranty is 8yrs\80,000mi. it would be covered it the car was setting a cat. efficiency code, but I can't say for sure if it covers plugged cats.

You know about the letter from GM about the catalyst converters and the recall / extended warranty on a lot of the 4th gens… Check out this thread in this section:
