ok so heres the deal, i have an 86 berlinetta camaro with one of those damn electronically controlled 4bbl q-jets. the car is running rich right now and i need to fix it up so it will pass the CA smog test. I know the air/fuel mixture is controlled by the ecm so my question is should i use a code reader to reset the computer or is there something else causing it (ive already checked all vaccuum lines and the pcv system, air filter is clean, ect)...Maybe a carb rebuild or just a new carb would help? any advice would be greatly appriciated

Thanks :-)

i wish you luck! i bought a new q-jet it cost me about $440.00 and did not change a thing! run a diagnostic on it hopefully that will tell you something.

this is going back a long way for me, but look for a map/baro sensor...check to see the vac lines are good to it, and that it is functional...you can get a gm map sensor for about 40 bux...if you scan it, you can pull a data stream to see if it`s working...i`m sure the book gives a voltage test procedure also...it sounds like the auto enrichment valve on the carb is stuck open, either due to the ecm, or gunk on the valve...jm2c...

My 87 Caddy had one of those qjets. Loved the car but never got used to that carb sitting there clicking.
