On another post, I learned of another TC member that also owns a 1983 Z/28 H.O.

Since there were only about 3,000 made compared to 50,000 in 84, I believe, how many others have or had an 83 H.O.?

Any original owners?

I ordered mine from the factory in the spring of 83 during the short time they had the option available. It has 205,000 miles and has only had new gaskets, bearings and the timing gears set replaced.

I had a 1984 H.O. Z28 w/ T-Tops, factory 3:73 gears. The cam went flat at 92,000 miles. I was the third owner. The original owner had the VIN number professionally etched into the wheels & glass by the factory. I swear that car had every option known to man kind.

The H.O. option replaced the cross-fire injection which was garbage!! Although I must say I hate 305's and they are better used as boat anchors. Same goes for the turbo 200 trans. Sorry. Ok all you 305 fans I am ready for the hate mail.

I'm not a fan of 305s either, but it does a pretty good job of moving my Camaro and with 21 MPG too! I don't see me ever putting in 350 unless the motor goes kaput for good. Besides, I don't need any more power, I'm afraid I'll hurt something! It's getting up there in age and miles.

I have a red 83 H.O. with t-tops and no power windows. I'm the second owner. Did all 83 H.O have a factory fiberglass hood or was that an option? I'm looking for one if anyone has a good one laying around. I live in Ga.

Thanks,
Tony

I ordered mine basically stripped except for performance options. H.O., 4-wheel disc brakes, no A/C or other power options. Has T-Tops and custom interior. I have since installed the factory A/C, power windows and door locks, and hatch release.

The hood wasn't an option, at least on the Z/28 as it came with my car like that. I believe all Z/28s came with the SMC (Sheet Molded Compound) hood in 83. Not sure what other years. I think GM went back to sheetmetal because of delamination problems. Mine is still holding together although it has flattened out slightly. It doesn't match the curve of the fenders anymore, by about an 1/8" - 1/4"

I bought a red 83 H.O. Z28 back in 1990 from the original owner. It was pretty much loaded with 4 wheel disks, 3:73 rear, t-tops, power seats, power hatch.... It was a fun car to drive, but the 5 speeds and stock rear did not hold up to well. I was a little to rough on cars back then I guess. I had no idea that the l69 was that rare of an option in 83. I guess because you saw so many 84 H.O.'s on the road.
