I was replacing my console with gauges after putting in new carpet when the lights went out in not only the console/gauges but also my dash! Help!

Best guess is you blew a fuse. Check your wiring for shorts to ground on the orange wire, and check the fuse labelled "CTSY"

If that's all OK, you may have created an "OPEN" on the white wire.

Easiest test would be with a voltmeter, at the console light.
Connect one meter lead to a good ground.
The orange wire should read 12 volts all the time.
The white wire should read 12 volts with the doors closed and zero with a door open.
