I have seen SS both ways, painted black grill and all the way to the bumper, and painted black just at the grill, What Gives? What is correct?

The grill, except for the eggcrate section, was painted body color by the factory. True of all 69's, not just SS. The grills with the black center section are all black before paint. Some people like the look and install them that way, though not "correct".

All 69's except RS's and SS's had an argent silver eggcrate section of the grille, and body color edges of the grille, right up to the eggcate section. SS's (except black cars) had a black center section and body color outer sections. All RS cars (except black ones) have body color outer sections, and black center grille sections.

Black cars all have body color outer sections and argent silver centers regardless if they were RS's or not.
