View Full Version : New door shells? ochrisl Aug 5th, 01, 04:37 PM I have seen this post before but does anyone actually have one (68) installed yet? I think a lot of people would like to know how they fit.Are they available yet? HawaiianCamaro Aug 5th, 01, 08:12 PM Picked up a pair of the 68 Door Shells from Goodmark. Shells arrived well boxed and no damage. Side by side to the Orginal doors its hard to tell one from the other. Seem to be of the same gauge as the orginal and all. And I will say So far I am real happy with them even though there made in Tawain. I will be hanging them next weekdend and ill take some pics of the process. I have Pics of the shells fresh out of the box. Front what I understand I should hang them as shells and then mount all the hardware after there hanging. Any insights in this???? By the way I went straight to Goodmark for them. ___ Jeff 67/68 & 69 RS's ochrisl Aug 6th, 01, 12:53 AM I would hang them first then install everything, then make the final adjustments with the glass etc.Did they have to be shipped by truck?Let me know how they fit.Thanks. HawaiianCamaro Aug 6th, 01, 07:41 AM Paind for Fedex 2nd day air to Hawaii but Goodmark shipped them by land. Truck and Surface (ship) to Hawaii. When I aksed them about it they said they could only ship them by land, to big for Air shipping. But when i went to the FEDEX page and put in the weight and dimensions they were ok..go figure. At least they did provide a tracking number and all so i cold see where they were all the time. Just didnt like the 13 days it took to get them to me, but I guess to live in paradise you have to pay the price; ___ Jeff 67/68 & 69 RS's ochrisl Aug 6th, 01, 04:01 PM How do you ship land from CA to Hawaii? http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif HawaiianCamaro Aug 6th, 01, 06:35 PM Goodmark out of Gorgia shipped them to Calif by land then then came over on the slow boat to China via Hawaii. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif KURT Aug 7th, 01, 02:39 AM After you hang them put about a 15 or 20 lb. weight in the door (to simulate the glass and hardware) then make final adjustment. After that you can paint and assemble the door and it will be in alignment. If you don't do this, when you assemble the door it could affect the alignment, and you would risk chipping the paint trying to re-adjust. HawaiianCamaro Aug 7th, 01, 07:56 AM Kurt http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif thanks for the idea of putting weight into the door. Never thought of that but it sure makes sence. __ Jeff 67/68 & 69 RS's KURT Aug 7th, 01, 03:32 PM Your welcome, don't forget to tell us how those doors fit. I'm thinking of gettting a driver's side for mine. HawaiianCamaro Aug 12th, 01, 12:04 AM Aloha All, Just wanted to let you know i removed both doors last night (friday) Was orginaly planning on leaving the door hinges on the car itself but removed them 100% of the way. Glad I did too. Found the area between the hinges and the body area rustings so i wire wheeled that area then POR 15 the area along with the small amount of rust on the hinges. Then this morning i stripped the old doors of all hardware. POR 15 was dry on all surfaces so i attached the hindges. Attached the passengers door and went with Kurt's advice of putting some weight in the doors to simulate the window and all. Tried it the first time without the weights and was way off so the weights are the way to go. All in all it took me about 15 minutes to align the door. Fits better than i had hoped for. No binding on the door edges or along the bottom. All air gaps nice and even. (Very Pleased) I have all the hardware back in the passenger door with the exception of the window itself. This will be put in after its painted later down the road. Will post more dealing with the drivers door Sunday night. One thing of note. only the drivers door came with the holes for a mirror. Again the sheetmetal thickness is very good and all the hardware was a straight bolt in> Door shells were direct from Goodmark INC :P ___ Jeff 67/68 & 69 RS's KED67 Aug 14th, 01, 07:02 AM Way cool response. I may need to get a door shell. Kinda hope not, tho. Good ol' Matson. Surprise they don't have an airline shipping freight yet! ------------------ KED67 1967 RS/SS 350 4-Speed Convertible 1968 6 Cyl & PG/Console for the Wife & Son HawaiianCamaro Aug 22nd, 01, 10:06 AM Aloha from Paradise http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif Finished putting on the drivers side door shell and like the passengers side the shell fit like a glove. Like the passenger door I put weight in the shell to offset for the hardware that was removed. Door lined up with no problem and seemed to get it lined up faster, guess its because I already did one side and knew what to look for. Both sides after being hung seem to present the same spacing all the way around. To me they looked very good so I saw no reason to measure them. The drivers side door comes with holes for the outside mrror which fit perfect. Glass was intalled on both doors since i wanted to see how they rolled up and to make sure they indeed would extend 100% to the seals around the roof moldings. No problem they meet and sealed perfect. Overall except for the shipping http://www.camaros.net/forum/frown.gif I am very pleased with the REPRO Door Shells. Ked67----E-Mail me I have a line on some 67 doors if you need them. There in CT not here in Hawaii so shipping shouldnt be so bad. __ Jeff 67/68 & 69 RS's ochrisl Aug 23rd, 01, 02:48 PM Sounds good.I may spring for one.I was going to get a skin, but the frame needs some patches welded in.So i may just get the shell and be done with it. HawaiianCamaro Aug 23rd, 01, 04:27 PM Thats the reason I went with the shells, didnt want to have to patch/bondo and paint which for me would have taken a lot longer than just hanging new shells. Without a doubt it was the best way to go for me. __ Jeff 67/68 & 69 RS's |
