I am installing a set of GM 1/4 panels on a 69 RS Z28. My problem is when I set the new 1/4 in place the lips where the side window is do not line up like before. when looking at this area on the side not removed yet the inner panel lip is about 1/4 inch lower than the 1/4 panel lip. On the new panel they are aprox. level. any help for me out there? Is this a problem?
Thanks Les

If I understand correct this is in the sail panel. At the roof gutter? If so I would be more concerned that all else fit well. (door, wheelhouse, decklid and taillight pocket) The sail area was allways loaded with solder to fill and finish that area. If thats the case you should weld up any small gaps with mig welder. Hope I helped good luck

Les -

It's hard for me to visualize where your problem is - pics would be very helpful. However, from a general perspective I can tell you that when I replaced my quarters it was a real challenge getting everything lined up right. I replaced both quarters, the tailight panel, a wheelhouse, and the filler panel below the back window all at once (plus door skins, a fender and the hood). I had to get each flange straight and oriented right, and assemble all the panels in place. I put large ratchet straps (tie downs)around the car in several directions and very carefully tightened them down. Then I had to move the various panels a bit here and there until everything finally fell into place. It took quite a bit of messing around with it to get everything right.

At this point I drilled a bunch of small holes and used sheet metal screws to hold it all together until the shop could weld it up.

One caution - it may not be safe to assume that your car is straight and "right" to begin with. It may very well have been fixed badly at some point or damage may have gone further than you can tell. Maybe your quarter is right and the car isn't? That's what I found that caused me to replace so many panels. You can check out my repair pics at my site below.
